A quick update... The Slim and the FrankenOld showed up on Friday. Here's the results after a long, hot soak and some minor polishing: The OT is actually in decent shape except for the bent corner teeth. It looks like the handle was originally nickel=plated, but there is only hints of that left. The overall effect from polishing it, though, is almost a rose-gold appearance. The Slim has to have been the dirtiest razor I've ever seen, especially inside the bay doors. The good news is that both the adjusting mechanism and the TTO doors work smoothly and well; everything also appears to be aligned correctly. The bad news is that there is lots of plate loss and brassing. FWIW, it has an H2 date code. I had my first shave with the Slim today using a conservative setting of '3' and a new Astra SP. Very smooth and overall a nice CCS. Tomorrow, we'll try a setting of '4'. JR
Only made one purchase this weekend but something I'm pretty happy about - a gold DeHaven in case. You don't see the gold version too often at all.
Old proprietary ones. There are some links around for how to mod blades to make them work with it though so I'll give that a try ...
Not sure a modified blade will allow for the sharpening mechanism to work - we shall see when it gets here. For anyone interested in these razors the seller still has a very nice, in box, silver DeHaven for sale - same condition and box but silver
This soap is getting quite some love this week which is a great thing Really looking forward to reading some reviews.
Like Darkbulb, I only made one purchase this weekend. I was going to buy an Olivewood handle and build a brush but found this one for $20 BIN.
