I think tomorrow will be an Arko shave-day. Time to use it again. Gonna pair it with some Stirling Bay Rum A/S splash and Tabac cologne
I decided to cancel the order for the tech and just bought a MMBT or Flying Wing. I want to see what this whole SE thing is all about and wanted a Mild SE, the plus side being I can buy blades locally, both GEM and Treet. Hopefully my rad will not be started up again. Arriving some time in the few days.....the most moolah I've ever invested in a hunk of stone—aside from my wife's wedding ring. Shipment was delayed on this for about a week as the seller was having it re-lapped before sending it on its way to me. Excerpt from SRP's description on Eschers: The stones made by the Escher & Sohn company, produced from 1709 to the early 20th century in Germany, have gained an almost legendary status among razor honers. So much so that they have become the name applied to a whole genre of their type, these days simply referred to as Thuringian. Mined in the Thuringia area of central Germany, these metamorphic stones are composed of an abrasive quartz embedded in chalk.....The famed Escher stones came in different colors with yellow green, blue green, light green and dark blue being the colors denoted in labels by the Escher company. The color coding used by Escher to grade their stones may have related to the speed with which they cut. The lighter colored stones seem to cut faster. The more blue stones may leave a finer edge. Many find there to be little descernable difference with the end result from their differing Eschers... Eschers are fine finishing stones. The labeled Eschers suggest using them with a slurry and they were supplied with slurry stones of the same material. Some honers find it effective to begin with a slurry and dilute as they go down to clear water to finish while others use the hone with water only. One way or the other these are wonderful finishing stones for honing razors to a sharp and smooth edge. If there is a consensus on the equivalent grit to a synthetic stone it seems to be in the area of 12 to 15k. What I plan on doing is building a special hinged box for it—similar to the look and feel of this vintage Escher box...
And your plan is to use all four together in some way? Ever use a shavette before? Be sure to post your experiences with the Sanguine...
I'll probably use all four separate from each other Never used a shavette - or a straight - but it's been 'calling me' for some time. For $14 (and free shipping) I thought it could be a risk to gamble on. I like that it uses regular half, DE blades. Will be interesting to see how it works...and I'll be sure to post photos of my shredded face.
You'll do fine. You can get a super smooth shave with either a shavette or straight razor. Supposedly, the shavettes have a slightly different feel than a straight, possibly due to the inherent differences in the blade thicknesses, hollow, and angle.
M1 gillette adjustable aristocrat revamp and some soap sticks from razor emporium....still waiting going on 2 months and waiting...
I've heard/read a number of times that the shaving experience with a shavette is very different to a straight razor so I'm seeing it as a separate product. I've also heard that the shavette that comes closest to a straight razor shave is the old Weck shavette. I may pick up one of those if I like this Sanguine one...or jump into the straight razor craze
YAHOOO I'm finally waiting for a Merkur 37C Slant bar to come it should be here by the 8th. The vendor accepted my offer and so in a few days I will be joining the Slant Bar club. I can't wait to give it a spin.
Hopefully I should get my club an vanilla aftershave in the next few days. Then, hopefukky I will like it, I will use itmfir the rest of the month as suggested by Mr Shaverman. I have already decided to use my Pils De for at least the next week to try and get my technique with that razor as good as possible. I am also trying to just stick with Cella. When I first got Cella I made great lathers with it, but I seem to be messing it up a bit lately,so I am going to just keep using it until I get it consistently right. Therefore Shavermans idea of just using one afterahave for the rest of the month fits in quite nicely with my plans. I guess looking at GD Carringtons post has rubbed off on him, I might keep this up for thirty days.
Chris Evatt at Razor Plate just sent me this pic of my 1958 Exec he just finished replating! Should be shipped to me soon!!!!!
I have one, I found whats best for me is to not shave for a coupe of days. The 37c will cut your whiskers like a hot knife cutting butter.
