2k to 8k is a pretty big jump.
I suppose you could throw the norton 4k in to the mix and so how it works. Different feel to the naniwas.

 

It is a 3000 grit I believe.

If they are not glued to a base, then yes, two usable sides.

 

The back side unsharpens so you can try again.
