I think you are correct in this case (pun intended) that the case is mismatch for a new improved.
Same style case but there is a way to confirm which blade banks and razors go with the new improved razors and those square style cases.


They don't have cases without the set name and if you look carefully at the pictures you can see the blade banks are different.

Then look at the razor base plates they match the blade banks along with the case design on the outside.


You also see the same with the Somerset set as far as the blade bank and razor base plate and case.


I am going with the mismatch, i.e. same case but not correct if you want a period correct set piece.

 

all the red improved sets i have seen with this case had 1921 serial #s.i guess it's my word..you're the expert..

 

It is possible also but that ad is from 1921 and it clearly shows both cases monogrammed with the set name. Those red cases aren't monogrammed so they aren't a match for that advert.

 

fair enough..the condition of the sets i've seen including my own would tend to dispute foul play ...and they all had 1921 serial #'s..just saying..thank you Andrew..

The EDT looks good. I've thought about getting a pine scented soap and after shave.

 

I looked through the aftershaves then chose 5 and picked up the samples of them to choose the EDT I'd like the best ..... I ended up liking three out of five.

 

Like I said the possibility exists they were issued in that case earlier in 1921 when they first introduced the new improved razors before they expanded out the line of sets. I don't think foul play would be an issue here anyways since it doesn't affect the value since they aren't the more fancy new improved razors.

dang it 100 bucks dropped on a mismatched set, that's a little disappointing. I've seen this happen with mismatched sets of vintage old spice but never with Gillette razors. Oh well, thanks for the info tho! I guess this hobby is about a learning experience and figuring out the manufacturing process history.

 

I ordered a 24mm Gelousy SHD from AP Shave Co. last month. Once it hit the U.S. it went west instead of east, and for the last two weeks it's been travelling around Saint Louis MO. I live in Mass.

When this has happened to me, I'd just fill out a form on the USPS website. And miraculously, my package would arrive in a couple of days.

 

Sadly been there, done that. Each time I got a call back from the local postmaster who assured me that they would investigate. I'm still waiting for my package.
