Well, they arrived and they are beautiful. Almost NOS. Soap unused with cardboard cover still on it (soap smells funky), seals still on talc and a/s bottles. A/S all evaporated, just a few dried up crystals in the bottom. No smell so can't guess as to what to replace it with.

 

I saw these on ebay and passed by them then on my second run through almost passed on them again when I realized what they were.

I doctored the pics to see them a little better than they originally looked.






Now in case you still don't see my interest ...... obviously the brush is a Simpson, but not exactly sure which one. Now the stand I believe is for a ceramic Rooney Horsemen set. Just recently (3 weeks ago) pick up the brush.

I was the only bidder so needless to say I'm very stoked!

 

I did see that Simpson on Ebay.

 

Oh i was sooooo close on pulling the trigger on this.

Waiting time

 

Ordered today and waiting on a Pearl Flexi V4 adjustable razor, Gibbs clone.

I did order a Rex Ambassador adjustable Gibbs clone on Amazon, sold by a third party but shipped by Amazon, but that $249 price tag - and the notice on the Amazon product page that it is a non-returnable item - kept eating at me. Thankfully, I was able to cancel the order as it had not shipped yet.

My sleuthing research says Pearl has worked out the bugs - blade alignment, head slant, etc. - over the batches, and $80 is much more palatable than $249.

I've never really enjoyed the shaves from any of the vintage Gillette adjustables I own. They do the job obviously. They've just never left me saying, "That was a nice shave!" at the end. The only razors that have ever done that, that I currently own, are my various Schick injectors, my Chinese half DE blade head and my Gillette Senator TTO. So fingers crossed for the Pearl Flexi!
