They were called King razors, you had the Dollar King which was nickel plated and then Silver King which was silver plated. Clark's had a few razors and also sold replacement blades but the King razors and one DE razor they sold in between 1909 - 1912ish were the only propertary ones that they had a patents on. The DE razor they produced was maybe the first DE ever made to compete against Gillette razors in the US. Here is the MkI King razor. The comb flips up with the plate unlike the MkII version. You can look up the patents and dates to know that this one came prior to the MkII.
No the improved King was just that an improvement on the design. If they sold it in a Silver or Dollar King set I don't remember. There was a Winner set also, I've seen the razor before and IIRC it was a single edge razor that used a flat blade without a spine in it. You also had the King Cutter razor and others. Those razors were made by 3rd parties and sold under their brand name.
I don't remember if the 34 - 35/36 crats came in something besides the gold plate cases but all the Aristocrats for sure from 35 / 36 until 1941 all did come in gold plated cases exclusively. https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/us-gillette-aristocrat-tto-timeline.61682/ Covers all 3 one piece open comb Aristocrats. Another good thread. https://theshaveden.com/forums/thre...lettes-tto-open-comb-discussion-thread.50554/ Gratuitous shot of all the open comb 1pc Gillette razors I used to own before I sold them off. Dates are approximate 1. 34 - 35 Aristocrat 2. 36 - 37 Aristocrat 3. 38 - 40 Aristocrat 4. 37 - 38 Sheraton 5. 38 - 40 Sheraton 6. 38 - 40 Senator
Double doh moment the Silver King is the MkII not MkIII improved razor in your picture so my original statement stands, I don't know if the improved King razor was marketed in either Dollar or Silver King sets like the MKI and MKII versions.
Saw this thought its scary and different so it sort if intrigued me… my mind just said buy it! Or maybe the elf.. i dont know! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I question the first Sheraton variant being made in 38 as it has the same rivet hinges that Gillette stopped using after the 37 Aristocrat. I think the first variant Sheraton should just be 37 only. Any adverts?
Right. I want to see one that shows it was sold with the rivets in 38 after Gillette stopped using the rivets on the Aristocrat after 37.
My search engine isn't sophisticated enough to understand " rivets "but I'll do a quick look....nah not finding good pictures. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
The change to the tabs happened on all the Gillette 1pc razors in 1938 with or right around the introduction of the Senator razor ahead of Fathers Day in May of 1938. https://theshaveden.com/forums/thre...-tto-open-comb-discussion-thread.50554/page-6 Any Sheratons or Aristocrats made earlier than that in 1938 should still be riveted.
Since I already own this NOS Schick № 20 "Type B1" Repeating Razor injector set... ...I just had to have this matching NOS full blades set to go with it: I honestly did not think I would win this auction. I figured this set of blades would have went for at least $100 or more. I figure the timing had a lot to do with it, ending at 7:30 PM on a Friday night. Not complaining. Awesome score! More pics when the blades arrive.
