1) I really like Nancy boy shaving cream, 2) The Gillette Flair Tip Rocket is a fantastic razor, 3) I might not be able to live w/out Provence Sante, and 4) The Veg is King
I learned that my Slim adjustable set on 9 is excellent on the first pass but AG I need to turn it down or be more careful. I'll leave it set around 6 for now until I have more experience with a more aggressive razor. I just had to try almost forgot to mention I did get an incredible 2 pass shave with no burn, just a few minor nicks.
Today, I learned that the "Damaskeene" is a darned fine shaver, and I am glad I gave SE razors a fair shake. I would be satisfied with them if that's all I had available, they're that good. If you're not familiar, try one for a 30 day, you'll probably agree with me.
Relearned that your favorite blade may not work in that new razor. Finally found one that made my newest aggressive ( for me) razor work and that was the Gillette Silver Blue.
I learned that my Feather Artist Club razor ate a 2011 R41 for breakfast in preparation for my shave.
Yesterday I learned that I can actually get really good shaves from Dorco blades. I had already been surprised that I had gotten some pretty good shaves from the ST 300 blade. I won a PIF recently (thanks @DEfettish) and finally got to try the ST 301. I believe it was better. It was actually good enough that I couldn't resist the urge to go with a couple of ATG passes, which I typically reserve for special occasions since it gives me irritation most of the time. I was rewarded with a 3-pass BBS that left only a small amount of irritation that faded quickly. If you've held off trying them because of the poor reviews, pick up a few. If I can get the same quality shave from the rest of the tuck, then Dorcos will be my next hundred pack. I'm pretty frugal, so it would be awesome if one of my favorite blades was also one of the cheapest.
That, as pleasant as it is, bowl/scuttle lathering creates a lot more mess to clean up than if using a shave stick and face lathering.
No matter how "gentle" the razor is, it still can bite if one does not take the time and proper technique.
I felt the exact same way for a long time. After reading so many people loving them I'd wanted to try them, and was ultimately let down.
That my Fatboy is really an equalizing razor when it comes to blades. While I have come across a couple that aren't very smooth, for the most part, I can get good shaves out of just about any blade with this razor. Even Dorcos and Van Der Hagen blades have given me great shaves.
