I learnt that being consistent in using one razor for the whole week was quite rewarding as I was able to pick up small differences from a different soap and/or angle. I felt as if I was educating myself more about the razor than what I normally do hopping from razor to razor I'm really enjoying my self-imposed "1 razor - 1 week" this year.
I learned that worrying about the details of wetshaving is a near total waste of time. When it comes to shaving, just do it and move on to the rest of the day.
I realized while even in a hurry I can get a DFS shave. Had time restraints today so I could meet the wife for lunch and about twenty minutes til I had to leave I said to myself, Do I have time to shave or not?. I really didnt want to wait til after I got back home to shave so I went for it. Using the usual gear iKon Standard, Astra SP (day 4 cause I didnt want to waste time and get new blade), Arko stick and VDH boar brush. Did a pass, looked at the time, did a pass looked at the time, did a pass looked at the time. Did a quick touchup and DFS with no nicks or irritation! On time and one of the best shaves! Also have a great lunch and time spent with the misses so excellent day!!
That Proraso makes one helluva aftershave splash. Also that I love/hate breaking in a new boar brush (this one is more of a confirmation instead of new found knowledge)
I learned that a single ring is a very smooth shave, much smoother than an old type with the thicker head.
Needed more product and more patience building the lather, and don't try a new soap when your in a hurry. A quick dab of cream sent the uber rescue.
Learned that I enjoy this ritual more each and every time. I enjoy the satisfying result of a fine shave. I appreciate the quality, solid materials and precision that makes up my razors (especially the vintage ones). I find that every time I use a Rapira Platinum Lux blade, the shave gets better! Life is good!
King's Super-Speed wonder works just fine even if I'm still asleep. Oh, yeah...and Screamo Cream works ok but stinks.
Gentlemen, From my last shave... I learned that Alabama water lathers soap easier than my usual Colorado water supply.
i learned not to stray away from your other razors to long, i myself forgot how they shave and in result didn't have the best shave in recent memory. My Merkur Futur spoiled me to much!
This year I am using one razor a week. I started with injectors in January and am doing DE in February. Today, I picked up the Schick Krona for this week. What a wonderful shave it provided. Just finished a week with the 37c which was good, but the Krona was wonderful. Nice long handle with a great feel. March will be Gem month.
On most of my shaves I'll usually shave against the grain on my neck, usually doing two passes just to get a really close shave. When using my RRSS I can get away with it without any irration. Well today I went with a standard 3 pass shave. And boy was I pleasantly surprised! DFS with zero irration, smooth and much faster.
I learned not to skimp on the lather for the second pass... Add more soap/cream to the brush if needed! As much as I'd like to shave tomorrow morning, I may wait another day and let my neck recoup.
