Stick with it a while and your technique adjusts. I thought the same thing for a while. Now I've been using it nearly every day all month.
I've arrived at the same conclusion over the past month. I may do some touch up work but the third pass has become more of a sign of a problem than a desired outcome. Although I still feel cheated in cutting my shave shorter.
Going to give KAI blades one more try. Last nights shave with then was horrible. ..maybe got a bad blade......
I do 3 passes, but no ATG. Not because of irritation, but I have problems with ingrowns and folliculitis.
I've heard of that happening - folks reporting of getting a bad blade out of a pack. Funny, strange, unexplainable, call it what you want, but I've been using DE blades just about every day for almost nine years and I've never come across a bum blade out of a pack of good ones.
That it's possible for me to get good lather face-lathering Stirling. Now, if only I knew what I did differently this time. . . .
On the 2nd day of my 30-day Rule trying establish good technique...while shaving across my body, I cut myself badly as I focused too much on my line of sight and forgot Rule #1 - no pressure on blade. To which @Bama Samurai replied: It's pretty awesome to read about new shaver skill progression on a daily basis! And if you don't bleed a little, are you really experimenting? Nice work! Judging by all the blood, I really experimented a lot today. So endeth the lesson!
I didn't intend any schadenfreude in my reply. Other than the little mishap, it sounded like a good shave day to me. And on that note... Gentlemen, from my last shave... I learned, that on June 1st, I was applying pressure to the razor without thinking about it. I was so intimidated by the memory of a bad OC shave that I was zoned out on angles. June 2 went a little better. And June 2 lather was better than June 1.
