Heavens forfend! You can do it! I was ready to toss my Grande after the second painful shave. I am now loving The Beast. The trick was "riding the cap." The nomenclature came from elsewhere, but >here< is my journey (and FaTip advice from FaTip lovin' TSDers). Hang in there, dude! IF you decide to PIF the Piccolo, please consider sending it for a collective review (discussed at length >here<)! I read so many reviews of the Grande and ordered it with great trepidation... and almost tossed it! I suspect that, with the $25-ish barrier out of the way, you might have a few folks sign up just to see if the reputation is earned. Though I am suffering with a NovemBEARD and only shaving my neck and upper cheeks, I am getting really smooth, comfortable shaves from my Grande. I have even begun zipping around a bit. If you tame The Beast, I think it will serve you well. Good luck!
I did notice that holding the handle higher did smooth it out a bit, but I wasn't concentrating well enough to hold the pattern...woke up at 3:00 am to get a jump on paperwork. Upon reflection, shaving this morning under those conditions (sleep deprivation + Fatip) was ill-advised. I will keep the review thing in mind, too.
This is the reason I don't use mentholated soaps. It numbs my face to the point that I can't "feel" the razor on my face and get feedback on my technique. Almost like shaving in a Quinton Tarantino movie: I see the razor moving, but I can't feel anything happening.
I think I just used too much that day. FrostByte is cold enough without also using Proraso green, too.
I learned.... That even a super sharp wedge blade can't make a bad shave good. OK well it made it passable, but the irritation from prior awful shave was still very prickly. The Wilky made it better than it could have been though. I can't shave every day, especially if I just had a bad one, I guess is the main point to take away here.
I learned that I really need to make sure my alarm is in fact set. I had to do the whole "oh ****, I'm late" routine. Had to shower shave with Cremo. Still is DFS, but i missed out on the daily Zen. This happens to me about once in a decade so no biggie, but I am frazzled
I learned that my Weber is nice and mild. I learned that a grocery store version of Personna blades does a superb job of providing a smooth shave in the Weber. I learned that Old Spice doesn't have to sting.
I learned 24 hours after my Fatip shave that a/s still stings a bit even without having shaved again. Scraped epidermis indeed!
In my last shave, I decided to push a Voskhod into a fourth shave. I learned that 4 Comfortable DFS are possible from a single Voskhod. I had always tossed them after three.
ouch... That happened to me my first go-round with Cadet OC. But like @maltedmilk says...ride that cap!
I learned to stop trying to re-invent the wheel. A 3 passer is king. Had a great 3 pass shave this morning. Enough said!
