    Telly has nunchucks skills.....

The family unit has started a walking routine.
2 nights a week so far but we are trying to squeeze 3 in.
30 minutes of brisk walking, shooting for 45 eventually.
Lovie and I also have a ballroom dance class we attend on Monday nights but we arent accomplished enough yet to really get a lot of benefit from the workout.

    Exercise:

    1) Pulling corks from Champagne bottles
    2) Twisting and swirling my brush vigorously in my shaving soap
    3) Hand sharpening my kitchen knives on a wet stone
    4) Walking to the bar for a drink
    5) Crawling home from the bar after drinking to much
    6) Vigorously clipping the end of my cigar and lighting it

Aw hell, I'm 52 years old and I just don't feel like dieting and exercising anymore. Let the good times roll!::::git

This is a good thread of some pretty committed individuals...and those who should be committed.

    Since June 2004 I have gained 54 pounds..CRIKEY!!! that's a lot..Im the last few months I have lost ~ 22..so still have a looong way to go.
My body activities are a bit toned down as I have a spine injury that isn't goin away. So I have to really watch the calories and types of food that enters my body. It's more difficult than I imagined it would be. It's often too hurtful to stand and cook or cut or even put together stuff for a Juice drink...
So it's all about attitude with me...
I go to the YMCA pool alnost daily. this affords me the chance to swim, do upper body weight exercise and jog. The water takes the weight off my spine so that is releiving. I wear a flotation belt and work out with foam dumbells.
BUT it's easy to get lazy when you HURT...
On a dank, dreary, rainey, 34 degf day like today I feel like hardly moving at all. I take a LOT od prescribed meds Morphine and percocet among them. The drugs also have an affect on your digestive system...
So I'm gonna use youse to keep me cheered on or BOOed if I slack off on the weight loss strength gain.
I also take YOGA that has been most helpful to maintain range of motion and some flexibility.

Fast food and sweets are my enemy
I used to take ballroom dancing many years ago and it was a fantastic experience. Even after I stopped taking classes I continued to use the moves/techniques in other styles dancing.
    PLUS Dancing is SOOOO romantic.

I weigh 262 pounds down from a high of 294. My Goal is to lose10 pounds a month till I hit 220...then get to 210 which was studly weight.
so I guess I will forgo having a piece of apple pie for the morning meal :)
    Hahahaha

There's this gym chain that's opened up all over for $10 per month but it's not really a full-service gym. Basically, it's a huge warehouse with free weights, treadmills, and ellipticals. A newer, cozier gym opened with everything and at the same price. I couldn't pass it up.

I was on the crew team as a college freshman. Rowing is a great workout. I was one of the few kids in my group of friends who didn't gain any weight my first year. Sadly, I rarely see it in any gyms though.

I'm starting a diet next week. It's not really to lose weight but to heal an infection. In the process though, I might as well lose a few pounds. I have to eat only organic vegetables and meat and unfarmed fish for a month - no sugar, no bread, no fruit, no flour, no alcohol, no cheese, no coffee, no processed foods, and no nuts/seeds. :sad023 I figure I should lose a little weight just by surviving the month but I'm going to aid the process by actually using my gym membership.

    hey TstebinsB...

while i commend the apparent drive to succeed, you may be setting yourself up for failure or drastic up/downs with success. when i was 30, i was physically sick and just about 50 pounds over weight. the doctor told me to change my ways or be dead by age 35. at the time i dropped red meat, the binge drinking and soda. i also began to work out at a gym - slowly at first and kept adding things here and there to the point where i now work with weights 3 times a week and aerobic exercises the other 3...sundays i do nothing. a "mad dash" in these situations do not always work. it took about a year but i dropped from 210 lbs to 155. you may become incredibly crabby with these diet changes as my wife/saint will attest to. i remember arguments where i exclaimed, "i want quantity - not quality" of food choices. over the last year i became a little slacked in my food choices and the doctor was going to put me on lipitor for high cholesterol. i told him, i would take care of it on my own. i dropped cheese (being in wisconsin this is tough), chicken or pork once a week and the rest vegetarian...and fiber, fiber, fiber. my cholesterol dropped from 263 to 209 - the doctor was shocked. i also dropped some more weight which is an issue so i now take a protein supplement.

breads are good, check for fiber content. i look for 10 mg per slice.
fresh fruit and veggies are very good!
1/4C of nuts is very good as well.
eat salmon! maybe add some quality fish oil to your diet.
    alcohol in moderation.
good oils - olive oil immediately comes to mind.
    stay away from butter/margarine.

shocking your system may not be the answer. i am now back in the position where i do not deny myself anything within extreme moderation. some family members think i'm nutty but i am not on lipitor and may be off my BP meds again soon. feel free to drop me a PM any time. i can pass on what worked well for me.

very good advice right there S-S !

I checked your food advice and can only concur with it. instead of bread if you really need to cut out the carbs take a Whey shake instead of bread.

I drink one before going to bed now, and forget to take one in the afternoon now I have bread with me but a shake would have been better.

Im experimenting with Glucosamine ,Glutamine and creatine at the moment.
I lost some belly fat since taking this new Whey I have but it goes always with a severe workout once a week. High Intensity Training (HIT)

Im expecting some new supplements this week. some new ABS pills that will help me take /reduce more fat and help me with passing gass thus NO GASS ! as ill change my diet a bit. to really slim down on my hips and belly fat. offcourse pills dont work on themselves Ill have to do ABS excersizing each other day while taking these pills. ill report if they work.

Yes. It's not a big gym but for $10, I'm over it. :D

Your advice is great. However, I'm not doing this diet because I want to - I have to do it. I have an intestinal infection and the doctors don't know what it is. I have to eat this way so nothing will interfere with the tests. I completely agree with your food recommendations. My parents eat organic foods only so I'm surrounded by healthy eaters. However, doctors think I might be allergic to a food. I have to eat basically nothing for a month then slowly re-introduce foods back into my diet.

whoa - best of luck my friend. so basically you are cleansing your entire system to begin a testing process...it sounds very trying for you but also very interesting.

i hope you have a speedy recovery and a solution to your problem!

Ouch, good luck with the intestinal problem. I have a friend who goes to that gym as well, or used to at least. I went to the NYSC next to rockland bakery for a few years, to the gym connected to sport-o-rama for a few months, the NYSC in the palisades for a few months, and a few random basement gyms. I need to find a new gym for a month over the summer. Maybe I'll give that spring valley gym a try because I hear there are no contracts, just 10$ a month.

I'll tell you what I'm not doing is this. The timed graduation test for the actors and stuntmen in the "300" movie after 8-10 weeks of training and nutrition management. Only half of them even attempted it. Only one actor tried. The lead Arcadian. He did it in a little over 18 minutes. OK, back to my bowl of Multi-grain Cheerios and 2% milk. :D

    "300" Workout Grad Test

    25x Pull-ups
    50x Deadlift @ 135lbs
    50x Push-ups
    50x Box Jump @ 24” box
    50x Floor Wiper @ 135lbs
50x Kettle Bell Clean and Press @ 36lbs (KB must touch floor between reps)
    25x Pull-ups
    300 reps total

Since my daughter is about to test for her red belt in Tae Kwan Do, she is quickly finding out that at this level, the amount of balance, strength and endurance required to master her forms, kicks and drills just went up a whole lot more than she is used to. So, Papa is now working out with her doing upper and lower body training use bodyweight and dumbbell exercises. She is using 10lb dumbbells and I'm using 25lb dumbbells to start with. I created a whole set of routines for upper body on one day and lower body on the other with stretching, warm-ups and abdominal exercises crossing over both routines. I'm proud of her. These are not easy exercises and they are performed rapidly with only (1) 2 minute break in the middle. They are done most importantly with form in mind. It's not the amount of weight or how fast you do the exercises. If she breaks form then she has to stop, rest and restart. Once she masters this routine then I will up the reps or the weight just a little and start adding more balance exercises. Last night we were both huffing by the end and she was looking for more punishment so I let her do the optional 20 each leg roundhouse kick speed drill. I have many variations I can do with this routine and a Reebok Core Board for more balance. The only thing I wish I had would be a bench for both of us and a Power Station for me. I can do the bench but no room for the Power Station.

For excercise I do Judo and to supplement it I tend to run/sprint and various bodyweight excercises.
