I hear more and more people roasting their own coffee. Is it truly a difference in the quality and taste? I'm certain it is.
Never got into the Amateur radio deal. Why? I don't understand it. Didn't know anyone close enough to me that I could peep over their shoulder and see what it's about. Motorcycling...ah yes....I am still trying to get my very own bike. But, it's just not practical for us at this point.
I knew I liked you for a reason Add motorcycles and computer gaming (though I'm currently a little burned out on WoW) and you have my interests.
My little brother did that for a while. He got his Technician Plus license back in jr. high or high school and used to talk to a lot of the older guys who used one of the Livingston area repeaters. Since the internet boom and with mobile communications technology becoming accessible to almost everyone, I imagine amateur radio has lost a lot of its allure... but it really does have its uses. Our communications infrastructure, for all its size and complexity, is pretty fragile. In a crisis situation, amateur radio can continue to operate and relay information when cell phones and mass media are interrupted. Most operators take great pride in that fact.
We found that out during Hurricane Katrina down here in Louisiana. Phones/internet/etc were out for days. The hospitals and emergency services needed some way to communicate and turned to amateur radio. It's not for everyone of course. But it is alot of fun and serves a great purpose.
Ah, a bibliophile! Cool! (A librarian's friend!) I really started doing more pleasure reading again once I got out of school and didn't HAVE to read stuff.
Not just a librarian's friend but a teacher's as well. (I taught elementary school for more than 35 years.)
Yes, I always don't list that, but I tend to read about a book every other week. I do it more for self-knowledge and insight, or to learn more about something. Haven't read many fiction books in years. I read about 2 a year, maybe.
Hats, Old Kaywoodie Pipes, reading, political debate (I make Rush and Shawn Hannity look like Woodstock hippies), and daudling with free lance writing and maybe one day the great American novel.
As a matter of fact yes, all the time. Right now I'm trying to find out why there doesn't appear to be any Lake Ontario streams set aside and managed strictly for Atlantic Salmon, fly fishing only preferably since swinging and snagging don't work on the same water. I have a call and email into the person who manages Lake Ontario for NY state. I'm also working on setting up a non profit foundation to improve my favorite spring creek. Good to see another here!
