What is the status concerning "Shaveapocalypse"?

Well, buying upfront big blade quantities, at the end isn't so bad, since prices can only inflate over time. And it's stainless steel in sealed packages. So, what can possibly happen to them... I am pretty sure i will soon end up with at least 300 blades, for the simple reason that it's much better deal to buy 100 packs, than 5 packs. Yeah, they 're cheap anyway, but, when you have a product that doesn't degrade with time and the price/quantity ratio is much higher when bought in bigger quantity, why not buy that... Soaps/creams on the other hand, i don't think i will ever go above a 2 year supply.

My theory is that "shavepocalypse" is a term coined by some guy who needed to explain the 25 soaps he just bought, to his wife.

I currently have 68 vintage razors, most of which I've already given to one of my grandsons. I'll probably give him another dozen or more soon (I'm in possession of 28 now); 22 pucks of Williams, 13 sticks of Arko, a tub of Clubman, two cans of Barbasol, a tube of Cremo and a small tube of AoS Sandalwood; current blade count is probably close to 2000 of 30 or 40 different brands. I really need to stop buying stuff, but when I croak, my boy & his sons will not be in short supply.

Yup...the oldest got my coin collection, and the youngest will get stuck with 30-some-odd vintage coffee pots.

I don't specify between different apocalypses, the zombie one justifies all my hoarding needs from razor blades to ammo.

Corrosion and edge degradation can be a problem in humid climates. However, as long as you can store bulk blades them in a dry environment, nothing.

OK, but we will have to call it a 'shoepocalypse."

Overall wetshaving has grown, nowadays there are tons of artisans of soaps & razors which actually may be putting pressure on corporate brands.
People started saying 'shavepocalypse' tongue in cheek a few years back when Gillette was about to introduce the Guard in the developing world. The worry at the time was that Gillette would retool the St Petersburg factory that produces a lot of popular blades into making carts for the Guard.

The number of places online where you can purchase wet shaving supplies has grown significantly over the past few years. The immediate threat from the impending Shaveapocalypse seems far away. Still, you can never be too careful. I think, just to be safe, I should place another order and lay in a few extra supplies...just to be sure. Thanks OP for the reminder...

The only thing I worry about disappearing are DE and SE blades. So stock up and keep them in a dry place. Also start straight razor shaving and then no worries and it will stretch out your supply of DE and SE blades. I have about 700 DE blades but now that I use straight razors I only DE or SE shave one time a week.

That's nice. Unfortunately i never met any of my grandparents. By the time i was born, they were all dead. Talk about bad luck... My father was a wet shaver all his life, but he never tried to convince me to go wet shaving, as my generation grew up with Gilette multiblades. As a matter of fact, my mother was praising us kids for using multiblades "finishing quickly, instead of going like turtles with brushes, obsolete razors and such". I think my father had a Gilette super speed (with no colours on tip). I remember he always used Gilette blades, something in white package and blue or silver letters, i think. Unfortunately, my mother threw everything away once he died...

I imagine it is, however, if they come in sealed packages, like the Derbys i just got, where each 5 pack is wrapped in plastic, i don't see how my local humidity can affect them. The humidity at the time of packaging (in Turkey) is what will matter. If i want to be paranoid, i could wrap the entire package in plastic wrap (the one you use for food) and add some silica cat litter inside before closing the wrap. The silica litter should absorb the little moisture. But the less air is present inside (the plastic wrap will help in that), the less chance of humidity left. I think one should worry more about whether it was a rainy day in Turkey/Russia/whenever they manufacture them, the day that they were packed.

Being paranoid can actually be good sometimes. Better safe than sorry. I also like computer software and i remember once an antivirus developer saying "the paranoids are the ones who are less prone to get a virus. Because they have multiple lines of defense, don't trust anything and always expect the worst". :)

Me, straight razor? Never going to happen... But i can see the advantage. I think i will be fine with just hoarding some hundreds of blades. If shortage appears, i think we will notice and grab some more. The bad thing with the hypothesis of shaveapocalypse, is that eventually, i will have to use canned foam. I really can't see myself keeping soaps in the freezer. It's a bit too much. On the other hand, since soaps have fats, i don't think they can remain without alteration for many years. Sure, it can probably lather, but what if it smells foul, from the rancid fat? Or doesn't smell at all anymore... Anyway, i 've used canned foam for all my shaving years, i guess i can live with that again. It's not so evil.

I live in a kind of humid part of the world as well. I do not have problems keeping even carbon steel SE blades in good shape.
