Starting to turn over the soil, still haven't managed to grow anything successfully in this damn field but there is something primal about dropping implements into the dirt .. As soon as the fire quits smoking I will turn all that in also
SWEET !!!! I actually learned to drive a tractor on an old Ford 9N,, Taught me quite a bit about safety and how to think through the next move before doing it
Not a large field. We are probably only planting about a half an acre. Corn, peas, sunflowers and after the 4th of July I'll plant a pumpkin patch for the grandgirl. She had a patch last year and throughly enjoyed watching the pumpkins grow. She will be 5 in October.
Must be nice I have tried Corn, Onions, Pumpkins, Peas, Beans, and I just can't seem to produce on ours of course were are in Zone 4 so things get fun at this time of year Our small garden does pretty good, we call it the "Sauce Garden" since we plant things to make Italian Red Sauces in it I just added the Low Tunnels to it this year so we can get a extra 30 days in there Romas in one Green Onion in another and last years Garlic coming up und that low tent This is from Monday morning we actually got a little Snow hehehe The 4x4 posts are for the Deer Fence panels to go up on
Looks great. I see you have problems with deer as well. Do you have a break plow and a disk? It looks like you were using a cultivator to break your ground.
I have a Middle Buster Plow to break ground, I used that for the first couple of years as I expanded it the last 2 years I have only had to use the Cultivator to turn it over.. I am actually thinking of adding some wide Sweeps to it this year This is the first year after I broke ground and then leveled it all out using my Box Blade Kubota L3600 DT
My tractor is mostly for moving Snow in the winter and smoothing Road Gravel in the summer But I figured since I own one I might as well have fun too so I busted open that field, someday something might grow in it hehehehe
We don't have to move snow nor do we have a lot of drive way to maintain but you have a nice tractor to do it with. It would be nice if you could go down about 6 inches and turn the ground over. It would help a lot. Ground will get better from year to year after it is worked. Keep after it and it will get there. You can add compose type material to the garden spot but no animal bones, meat or fat type stuff. What you have started this year looks great. Wish we were closer . I would bring the tractor over and break it up for you.
When I ran the middle buster plow the first 2 years through it I was digging down 14-18 inches, the Cultivator with the thin tines is digging down about 8" We actually have pretty good soil up here I turned in Leaves and Grass plus all the annual growth for a couple of years too .. I think I am asking too much from too little sun and too cold a climate
Yeah, cow crap. I've heard chicken is the best, but 1. How much crap can you get from chickens, and B. It's the foulest smelling feces that I know of, no pun intended.
