Baked, cleaned and resurfaced several bowling balls, and I don't even bowl anymore. My son asked me nicely.

 

I get the cleaning and resurfacing, but why do they need to be baked?

Modern bowls are made from reactive resin and absorb the oil from the bowling lane. The oil will eventually clog the pores of the resin causing the ball to hook less or cause it to react in an inconsistent manner. Baking the ball is a term used when you put it in a special contraption called a ball revivor that heats the ball up to a temp of about 140°F. That causes the oil in the ball to come to the surface where it can be cleaned off.
