My first for a few days was a Wilkinson Sword in a Gillette Tech. Things progressed quickly after that.
I'm from India... Here you will find all the shaving razors u seek for.... U name it and its here... Now catridge razors do have an advantage... Wen compared to de razors they r safe.. Prevents nicks and cuts... And fast too... But u will get the closest shave by a de razors but it takes time and u can get frequent cuts.... The razors which I use are... 1. Gillette Fusion manual 2. Glide personna m5 magnum 3. Gillette mach 3 4. Super max swift 3 5. Gillette vector(altra) 6. Gillette p2(trac 2) 7. Gillette 7oclock DE. My fav is mach3 and supermax swift... Supermax is extremely cheap and provides great shave..... And the de razor provides the best shave.. But time consuming and gives nicks.... For me its mixed...
I jiust started with a Gillette New and Astra blades, only had 2 shaves so far but I'm feeling okay about the blades. I feel slight razor burn but that might just be because I didn't prepare my face right. Hahaha
Started with a black handled super speed when I first started shaving. Hit cartridge razors for a few years. Been with de now for about 3-4 years.
Started DE shaving all of 4 days ago with a Merkur 180 (23C) and Wilkinson Sword blades. I've gotten very close and easy shaves with this combination, but next shave I'm going to try another from my sample pack.
The Merkur 180 was My first DE also. It rides in my travel bag for work. Not quite as close a shave as with my Progress though.
The first five razors I tried: Feather Popular Gillette FatBoy Gillette Slim Gillette short handled Super Adjustable Gillette Fat Handle Tech(this razor started my love affair with 3 piece razors)...
I hear you. The best shave I've had to date is with my Futur. I will keep the 180 because I'm so comfortable with it.
Once I weaned myself off my Sensor Excel and tried the '60 SS Flare Tip gifted by a friend, and with generic Wilkinson blades there was no turning back. My '61 Fatboy and a new Progress came next and now have both LH and SH Mergress razors which are amazing tools...!
A 1940's SS and a 1950's flare tip were my second starts; I'm old so when first starting in the late 1950's it was a Slim adjustable near as I can remember.
I started using a DE razor in 2005. My first was a Merkur 34c HD with Merkur blades. The razor is fine but I won't use those blades again.
I started with a Flare Tip. Looking back, that was a good one with which to learn. But as soon as I found that one, I saw all the other ones in the local antique stores. Shoot, for $10- 15 I can buy another old DE? Might as well!
