I will be using my Feather Artist Club SS today with a 2nd use Pro-guard blade. My 1st Shavette purchase was of a Dovo that I purchased from EmsPlace. Even though Dovo discontinued their black holder for the longer blade, EmsPlace was the only place I found that was still selling the Dovo Shavette with the black holder as well as the red holder and I wanted that choice especially since the longer blade that goes into the black holder is closer to the length of a straight razor blade. Back to the SS; I originally purchased the SS from The Razor Company for $100 but they sold me the SR which goes for $160 by mistake. I let them know this because I really wanted the SS due to being a beginner and the more forgiving design the SS has over the SR.
I contacted them about the mistake and long story short they didn’t get back to me right away and I ended up using then keeping the SR which they were ok with but I still wanted the SS so I bought it on ebay from a guy in Japan for $63. Bottom line is I got the SS and the SR for $163 vs $260, which is what I would have paid locally if TRC didn’t make that mistake. But if no mistake was made, I probably wouldn’t have bought the SR and would have only spent the initial $100, but I’m glad I have both so I’m happy.
I also purchased a pack of Proline P30 blades from TRC and 2 single blades each of the 5 proprietary Feather AC blades from RBC, the razor blade club, as well as 1 single blade each of the three Kai blades, so I’d have some samples to try. So far with the SS I’ve used the Soft-guard blade twice and this will be my second time using the Pro-guard blade. I’m excited to shave today because I’ve got about 6 days of growth. So far I’ve been doing about a pass and a half with the Shavette and finishing up with a DE. I’ll probably be using my gold plated Fatip open comb slant, the Lo Storto or Picolli. The brush I’ll use will either be my 24mm Savile Row Silvertip Badger that I purchased from QedUSA or my 24mm Simpsons 57 Best Badger that I purchased from Shave Nation. I’ll be doing a face lather and using either my Martin de Candre Forage or a combination of 2 sample soaps I mixed together, Barbershop and Haverford, that I purchased from a very excellent and impressive company called Stirling Soap.

today was the 1st time I performed the entire shave with my feather ac ss using a proguard blade. It wasnt bbs or even dfs but i think it was definitely sas. minimal irritation and zero nicks or weepers but definitely alum sting as usual. the good thing too is it should grow back quicker ao I can shave again but since I’ve ordered 3 new de razors, I’ll most likely want to use them when they arrive, especially the att s1 oc slant!

Who uses a feather artist club ss or sr with those propriatary blades? like pro guard, soft guard, super, pro, kais, and the schick prolines. just wondering how many uses do others get from them? I’ve heard like 20-30 uses which seems excessive to me, I just started to learn to use these and am up to 6 times on a couple different blades I’m using. what say you on this subject?

I use a variety of barber razors that use AC style blades and here are the current number of uses per blade before I normally pitch them:
    Kai Captain 9
    Kai Captain Titan Mild 7
    Kai Cpatian Protouch MG 8
    Feather Pro 7
    Feather ProGuard 7
    Feather Pro Super 7
    Feather Soft Guard 7
    Schick P-30 7

I think 7 is the default number I use since I don't think I have finished off a Pro Super or Soft Guard yet as they don't work well for me.
If the blade is still working, I will push it forward (like I did with the Kai Captain and The ProTouch MG).

Keep in mind that I am not a daily shaver. I shave every 2-3 days on average.

I find some blades work with some razors and not so much with others.
I think the ProGuard works better in my Feather DX than in my SRs.

I also found that in general, Feather blades are not that smooth on my face and I prefer Kai blades. That holds true for AC safety razors as well.

I just picked up a used Feather SS kamisori and I look to shave with it soon.

Shaved yesterday with my feather AC SS Shavette razor using a Kai Captain Titan mild pro-touch blade (1). I shaved pass #1 WTG and about 1/2 of pass #2 XTG before switching to my new DE S1 ‘above the tie’ open comb Slant that I recently obtained, which is now my favorite DE razor. I corked the Kai blade as I have been doing on all my blades now prior to their 1st use because I heard this gets rid of any tiny burrs that might be on them, etc. not really sure this actually does anything but I did watch a video where a guy did a comparison shaving one side of his face with a corked blade and the other side with an un-corked blade, both fresh blades. He did seem pretty sure the corked blade provided him with a noticeably smoother and closer shave so I’ve been corking all my blades now prior to their 1st use. Back to my shave with the Shavette… I do like the feel and feel like the performance of this Kai blade better than the other blades I’ve used so far with the AC. I also came to a realization after this shave that I’ve been re-using blades past their prime, read too dull to use. I say this because I noticed, finally I guess, the fact that I got very very little if any irritation from this last shave and the blade on the feather AC and the ATT S1 Slant were both 1st time used blades.
