Had a fantastic shave with this Japanese blade. This blade took an extremely keen and smooth edge off the J-Nat .

13/16 Tanifuji BaBa Swedish Steel, for lubrication I loaded up a big, fine Simpsons 59 with Santa Maria Novella in an Aesop bowl. A splash of Harris Pink topped off a BDBS shave.

People have asked me if the Aesop bowl makes better lather than other bowls, it has kind of a cult following, but being a retired engineer, cults don’t work for me. Does it make better lather? Maybe, or maybe it makes lather easier. It isn’t the finish or anything like that, I think that it’s the shape of the sides. Most bowls are just that, half round like a grapefruit hull, but the Aesop has steep, straight sides. So when you’re whipping up that lather, the knot is hitting a more vertical bowl side and that’s IMHO, flexing the knot more than a half round bowl. All speculation of course.

Thanks Tom, and those ROMO scales are lookers for sure. I can never do justice to those BaBa scales, the gold is very reflective and they’re very handsome in hand. They just scream 1960s - in a good way!

Been awhile, but I had four days of scruff this morning. Made an Uber lather with Tabac cream, soap and a couple drops of glycerin. (I haven’t done this for quite some time now) Shaves this off the a freshly touched up Thiers Issard Bison. Probably my best shaver, always ultra close and comfortable.

15D8C45C-0E3C-455C-B49C-E9AD966173D0.jpeg Shave #38, still shaving very well indeed, not ‘fresh off the stones’ smooth during the shave, but holding up well and the results were near perfect BBS, no stubble left for my cleanup pass. 2-pass shave + dry cleanup on the neck as usual, soap was MdC rose lathered with a Simpsons 58, and a splash of Harris Pink finished up. A tiny bit of LpL Rose de Pushkar followed and I’m Sunday smooth and fresh.
