I'm gonna dedicate this shave to Brut lovers everywhere and especially to one @BigD who uses Brut in spite of the high levels of scorn from his mom that he successfully compartmentalizes as 'Joe Namath hatred'.

PAA - Et Tu bath soap
    PAA - Et Tu shampoo
PAA - Et Tu shave soap
Stirling High Mountain White Badger brush
Freshly honed up rescue John Jay straight
PAA - Et Tu Star Jelly AS
PAA - Et Tu Aftershave splash
    Genuine modern Brut deodorant

I picked this razor up for $18 when I stopped at an antique store on a whim with my oldest daughter.

It didn't look to bad to make a shaver out of and I loved the mother of pearl (probably fake) inlays on the tang.

Not much luck with 0000 steel wool and 3in1 on the rust. A very nice gearhead at the auto parts store recommended Blue Magic Metal Polish Cleaner. I don't think there is any relation to the Blue Ming, but both are successful at their jobs. What is left will need more than I'm prepared for now.

To the stones.... After I got it I worked it on a slurried coticule setting a bevel. The rust damage prompted me to go to the 1k Naniwa where I worked out all but 2 pesky little edge defects. Got them cleaned up in 3k, 5k, 8k. Moved to the 12k and was just not satisfied with what I was after. Second only to a shave test my best indicators have been using my thumb pad for feel and listening for an almost musical twang while doing so. I've been successful getting this finishing on a coticule and a coticule slurried convex ark. Worked here and did a progression on charged balsa strops.

How did it shave? I could say it challenges edges I've gotten done by some of the world's finest. Or, I could say that it is just me, Harry Home Honer finding his own edge, the way I like it. To those who contributed to my success directly or indirectly, I give you my thanks.

    The rest of the shave/shower?
While PAA hit it out of the park in the Glorious Stanks Department, the only things I will repurchase is the aftershaves. Good stuff, just not good enough for the premium.

    Have a great week folks!

Love those MOP covered tangs... very cool John Jay!

Newly acquired Turner & Cowlishaw out of Meriden, Conn. I think this could be zeroed in to 1872-1880. Joseph Turner seemed have some interesting connections...

Born in Sheffield in 1838, he worked for quite a few of the Sheffield names including Wade & Butcher. Came to the US in 1870 and was making razors in Meriden by 1872. Joined up with Joseph Torrey to start up razor manufacturing for J.R. Torrey in 1880, moving the operation to Worcester, Mass.

How could I pass this up?!??? :)

I love those swayback English razors, you can see the lineage in this one. Nice razor Tom!

I used a pre merger circa 1930’s Geneva Pyramid 7 6/8 today and yesterday.

After the Sunday shave I did 50 laps on the 200k diamond pasted balsa before 25 and 50 Illinois strop.

This is a good and affordable brand for a new SR collector/user to consider. I paid less than $20 for this one.

7/8 TI hook nose Spartacus, cream was I Coloniali Rhubarb (same scent as the mango oil soap) lathered with a TOBS brush in a Stirling collapsible bowl. The balm was I Coloniali Rhubarb. The razor shaves well, and those that like hard French steel will not be disappointed in the TI C135 Carbonsong, though rumor has it that it’s actually Sheffield steel. But it is hard like the French prefer, and Alfredo got something like 130 shaves from a TI if you’re interested in edge longevity.

This is the first trip out for the Stirling collapsible lather bowl. It’s actually a pet food bowl I think. The large raised nubs on the bottom are probably to hold that sift pet food off the bottom, and they do whip the brush around a lot with noticeable drag. But the lather it makes is superb, based on one trial and one cream. It collapses to about 1”, weighs nothing, and won’t break of course. That might make it a good travel accessory. I usually don’t take creams on at least air travel, the potential for mess and TSA rules for creams/gels make hard soaps a bit more attractive. I also bowl lather creams and carrying a bowl was always problematic though this may solve the bowl problem. You can always lather in your hand or on your face, but a bowl has always been part of the shaving ritual for creams at least.

Very cool bowl - hadn’t seen that one from Stirling. And how can you not admire a razor named Spartacus! Nice blade Steve.

I picked this razor up at a local rummage sale a year or two ago. It has Ivory scales and a MOP tang. Have a good one.

Yes, those are the originals - wild. It’s the only one of my 5 Russians that is anything other than utilitarian (actually, now that I think of it, the one celebrating Yuri Gagarin’s trip into space has a cool little rocket on the scales...) That said, they are all exceptional razors, particularly the pre-1970s. :happy036:

Dovo Masters, stainless steel in a design similar to a Bismarck 2. I don't see this razor for sale anymore, glad I picked one up when I could.

Had a wonderful shave with this Vintage Japanese blade.Love the weight and grind of this blade. The blade stamp states it is rps20200113_110622_695.jpg made from chemical steel. Not sure what chemical steel is .I would assume it made from very pure carbon steel.
