Shave #152 this morning, still shaving well. Some resistance as has been for some months, but no tugging/pulling. Cream was SMN and the AS was Myrsol Agua Balsamica.

I said I wasn’t going to use this right away but I caved. My new NOS 1800s John & Wm Ragg. It’s a heavy grind - kind of like a quarter hollow trying to pass itself off as a near wedge. Surprisingly it had a very sharp edge for a blade that heavy. No paste for this one for a few shaves :shocked003:

I love the classic lines and look. The jimps on the thumb notch are deep and close, just like on my favorite Lund. This adds some credence to the rumor I’ve read that Ragg made the Lunds for them. It joins the den with a lot of relations. Wonderful razor :happy036:

Oh, one note of distinction: it is the only Ragg I own not trademarked Napoleon.

While not a true straight, this Feather SS with a Feather Super blade delivered as good a shave as I get from my straights.

Gentlemen, I am out of the game for a few days. I was opening my garage door and the handle broke and laid my index finger open. 8 stitches to fix, so no traditional shaving for several days. Fortunately it didn’t hurt at all and there’s no tendon damage, so I am blessed today.

I did shave this morning with Feather Hi shave Gel and a new vintage Bic Metal, one ATG pass and the result felt surprisingly good. The catch is that 4 hours later, I have more stubble than 12 hours after a good SR shave!

You know, you just have to smile a little.... I hone and use some of the sharpest steel known to man, never an issue. What slices me open? A freakin’ garage door handle.

Sorry about the injury, Steve! By the way, have you ever used the Spyderco Fine and UF ceramic stones dry to hone a razor. Just curious. My son who's an experienced straight shaver and honer, said he can set the bevel on the medium Spyderco, and finish on the latter two two stones followed by a pasted strop and regular strop. Knowing your broad experience, I was curious about your thoughts on the matter. Thanks. I would think that a high Rockwell steel ( 62 or north) blade might chip.

    Glad that is all. Wow.

This is the second time I've heard of an issue with a garage door. This is the type that is on rails and rolls up/down?

My co-worker had an issue with his garage door opener....doing the manual route, sounds like a similar scenario, except he had glass windows in the garage door. Something jammed....a window broke/came out, hospitalized for several severe arm & back lacerations. He was lucky his wife was home.

:) Glad it is all OK and you’ll keep it’s use. However, if you find you are unable to use straights after the stitches are out, you’ll have no shortage of volunteers to take good care of your collection. :chores016:

I can relate. I've sliced myself good over the past few years. I just break out the Super Glue(Cyano Acetate), some bandages, and within 5 minutes, I am back to work.
The last time was with the same finger as you, and it was about 1/2 inch long to the bone.
