Le Grelot 14, soap was La Maison du Savon de Marseilles, likely the maker of Pre de Provence, and the balm was PdP. A keyhole 3 did the lathering. Great Saturday morning shave!

    A Tale of 2 Brothers

Similar to much of my fave stuff, I liked my first Thiers Issard enough to buy a 2nd one.

Technically, these examples could have been forged one right after the other. There are subtle differences that may have lead to one being graced with the bling of rams horn scales and a French point while the other with utilitarian plastic scales and a plain round point.

One was honed post factory by my vendor using convexed surfaces and one with the factory edge. This prompted me to a side by side comparison for which the post factory edge wins by a hair.

I’ve seen and read where people won’t use a crowned surface hone because they cause a frowning edge. Funny though, I must be doing wrong because I can shape the edge any way I want with mine. In this case the factory edge of one came with a frown.....BAD TI.....you think they would have learned something after making razors for more than century. Truth is, you wouldn’t know the difference in shaving.

Anyhow, great shave other than the small stick I got from the point that is destined to be muted. Fortunately no more leakage than from topping skin imperfections.

2 razors like this, with some sharpening gear, and a man could be happily set for life. Anybody wanna tell me why I’m dilly-dallying with Chinese razors again?

Repeat shave with the Filly. I noticed some chips and rust forming on the bevel after the last shave and took the edge pretty much all the way back. I’ve only freshened up blades before so I wanted to see how it shaved after my first and only rehone. Excellent shave so I’m pleased. :happy036:

13/16 Coral, soap was 3P and the AS was ABC almond balm. The 3P and ABC balm is an excellent combination. The ABC balm does need to be stored in a cool dark place or even the fridge if you are not going to ‘3017’ it, it will turn greenish and eventually go rancid over a period of years at room temperature. Yet it’s worth it to me, it performs highly and it is not a heavy or greasy feeling balm, the results are more like a good splash/lotion.

Tuesday morning, FW Söderén, one of the nicest razors, sounds like thunder during shave but it cuts so well. Extremely thin blade. [IMG]
