I don’t favor small razors but I love my SK-3.

I prefer small razors, myself. I find them easier to maneuver on the swirling stubble on either side of my Adam’s apple.

Just adding my voice to the chorus of others admiring your son’s work. It’s a beautiful pattern. There is no taking away from the fact that the first attempt is the hardest to get right and all signs point to nothing but fabulous blades to come. It really is impressive. :happy088:

For a razor missing the guard, still like the shaves it gives. Great start to the day!

This 1941 Russkie has always been one of my favorites. The quarter hollow grind seems to hide how sharp it really is. Three days of stubble are now a memory and I’m indulging in some prolonged face-rubbing of the super close result :happy036:

Isaac Oxley was a cutler in the late 1800’s. This was one of those shaves where everything just worked exceptionally well. :)

Quite the interesting shave today, I’m testing the edge from a current issue purple Pierre La Lune against the vintage ‘Blue Moon’, using undiluted glycerin. This purple stone has been giving me very smooth, close shaves, but the edge is aggressive. Red dots on the chin are the norm, but straight glycerin on the vintage Blue Moon seemed to produce a less bitey edge that was still close and smooth. My glycerin is about 90 weight, so did it tame the ‘grape ape? Pretty much yes (see below), so I think that I’ve found my method with this stone. YMMV of course, and if you like shavette edges dilute the glycerin 50/50, use Smith’s, baby oil, etc.

For those of you following the Tabacpocalypse, whrere’s the beef (tallow)? Why right here gentlemen, D. R. Harris went from palm to tallow about a year or year and a half ago. I shaved with the old non-tallow version just a couple of days ago I think, using the same brush and a F14 Novodur. So how do the tallow vs non-tallow versions compare? Latherability the same, but I’ve also noted that the current tallow version does seem to have less residual slickness than the old non-tallow palm oil version, and the razor stuck and dug in once on a repeat pass giving ne a red dot. No real nick or blood though. That slickness can be brought back by rubbing your skin with wet fingers, but just like the Tabac postings, I think that the non-tallow versions of DRH are slicker - which is enough to make your decision if you use straight razors. I wish I had non-tallow Tabac.

Razor, user grade Filarmonica 14, soap was the current tallow version of D. R. Harris lavender, lathered with a Keyhole 3, and AS was Myrsol Limon for the hot weather. Note: the soap bowl is my non-tallow bowl, I don’t have a bowl for the tallow refill puck.

I am going to get a bottle of that Myrsol Limon even though I don't need it and have no idea if I will like the way it smells.

    Just look at it!

If you don’t like it, send it to me! It’s a pretty straight up lemon, slightly sweet but not overly so, and unlike most citrus AS, it actually lasts a little while.

    Good luck!

Commie Razor Day. This is a very plain, and utilitarian Russian Razor. But, Its steel is up there, with the best of them. Extremely sharp, and smoot. It delivered a very nice 2 pass shave, that ended with BBS results.

Razor- Stiz, "Dawn", Made in Moscow. circa 1975
Brush- Art of Shaving, Pure Badger. Not the most comfy of brushes, because it is very scritchy.
    Soap/Cream- ARKO Cream
    Aftershave- Pinaud Clubman
