By chance I happened to be looking through Etsy the other day for a brush stand and came across this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/106276...=sr_gallery-8-34&organic_search_click=1&cns=1

There may be others as well :happy088:

Thanks for link! Will search better. ;)

Great design, may have to think about that layout too (but in different wood, just not feeling it with that particular burl wood).

Thanks! As I understand it, Tamahagane is made from iron sand. But not all Tamahagane is the same. More specifically there are two types, Masa and Akome. Masa is the higher quality while Akome is lower quality. No surprise Takeshi Aoki sold only the best :happy088:

Nice looking steel gentlemen, starting the year off right. There was a stand similar to Hans’ stand on Etsy but I don’t see it now.

Rifuto 815, cream and AS were AdP lathered with a M&F Finest Style 1 size 3 (I think, 27mm knot).

I’m curious about these particular Silver Steel razors so I am going to do an edge longevity test, which is why I haven’t been posting every day, but I am here. I don’t want to bore people with the same razor that I’m frequently using. The only way to do one of these tests is just dive in and keep at it. I hope to write a post about them when and if I know a little more. I got this one in November and it now has 21 shaves on the edge. I would expect 65 from a decent razor (Cape, Filarmonica DT) so I’m about a third of the way to the interesting part.

No problems Sir! It is made of Mahogany and have following measures:
    Base plate: 5 1/2” * 2”.
Stand: 4” * 2 in the base and 7/8” on top.
I just drilled holes in line and then used a Wooden file to make the hole square.
    Hole dimension: 3/8” * 1/8”+ isch.
On top there’s a Neodymium Magnet, 4 pounds.
The two pieces are connected with wooden plugs and glue. CVH frame back for display

    That. Is. So. Cool. :thanks:

Magnet to hold the razor steady, very nice idea. I was thinking it had to be a rubber grommet, or something similar (that's hidden), or a special shaped cut. Don't know if I'll ever mimic that level of detail...but I'll give it a whirl soon with some special wood I have (not that thick).

A magnet at the top… very clever. :eatdrink047: Did you plan it that way or realize it was a good idea afterwards?

    Thanks Karl!
I planned it due to the fact that all razors have different sizes on the tang. Quite easy to attach and detach.

Zingari Man - Shave Soap and Recovery Splash - The Wanderer (Barbershop)
Brad Sears Shave Works Disco w/hybrid badger
J.A. Henkels Friodur 5/8 (scales by Gem Star Customs)

Nice 2.5 pass shave, super slick lather from the ZM Sego blend. First pass - WTG, Second pass - XTG, lass 1/2 pass is neck & jawline only, opposite XTG. Light fragrance from ZM's matching recovery splash, a non alcohol version whose aroma lasts all day for me, but isn't overpowering with projection.

The star of this shave is the brush knot, Scott Lockwood got made an order for four hybrid (between fan and bulb) two band badger knots and I got a 22mm and a 24mm. This is the 24mm, in a test handle so that I can adjust the loft to see what works best for me. It’s a beauty of a knot. This will not be the handle that the knot will be set into. Soft right away, and I currently have it set at 50mm loft, which is slightly over what I call ‘double square’ - IOW if the knot is 24mm, double square is 48mm. This is usually a tad low, but not a bad place to begin or slightly over. In the next few days I’ll be trying out different soaps and creams and different lofts, but today it was Martin de Candre in the brain bowl, easy to make lots lather and a lot of soap surface in the brain bowl. The razor was the Rifuto and the AS Floris 89.

Other than getting bit on the chin on the first pass and the ready bleeding that followed throughout the remaining passes, it was a wonderful shave :happy097:

    Haslinger’s Aloe Vera Shave Soap
