And a beer? Thiers-Issard, pre-shave was SMN, soap and AS were Floris 89, and an Oscar11 handled Zenith boar did the lathering. Quite a nice end to the week. I’ve not been posting every day, because I’m working my way through my own stone hoard, revisiting old stones that I haven’t used in a while, sometimes not for years. My friend Tomo said that the best thing that you can do to improve the performance of a stone is to set it on a shelf and age it for a year. And he’s right, but what’s happening of course is that your honing skills are improving! I’m finding a surprising number of stones that are a lot better than I thought at first try.
This razor bit me hard one time and I tend to avoid it. I may be out of practice with it as the shave was not as pleasant as I’d like but I can’t argue with the result. Hans would be proud of me, a narrow Swede! 5/8 Jernbolaget, cream was Palmolive lathered with a Semogue Galahad, and a splash of Myrsol Plastic Shave finished up. The razor is indeed a fine one, it will shave the barbs off a barb wire fence.
Le Grelot 6/8, soap was IC Mango Oil with the matching Rhubarb balm, and an Oscar11-handled Zenith did the lathering honors. I’ve not posted many SOTD images lately, I’m revisiting my own stone ‘hoard’ and finding some real gems. The stone below is a full bench, thick, pure, asagi that makes a stupidly smooth edge. It has 3 Nakayama ‘tells’, a cloudy complexion, a kan ring, and some reddish umber skin. There’s also the tiniest amount of sparkling skin, just pinpoints but I’d still call this one as likely Nakayama. It’s also much finer than the hardness would suggest, a trait of Nakayama stones. It has never been used and retains some label discoloration.
Friday morning shave, Geneva Cutlery 6/8”. Wonderful shave, smooth and ready for a travel to Gothenburg with the house mobile. Soap Razor Emporium Old School Brush Gents Badger Silver Tip Splash Floris Turnbull and Asser Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
A celestial shave for Frameback Friday, Le Grelot Coupe Celeste. Soap and AS were Floris Elite, a fine scent for end of summer autumn. A Zenith boar did the lathering.
Sept 17 SOTD Hi guys. It's been a week since I used a straight. In fact, it's been a long time since I used this Wostenholm near wedge. This razor is 130 yrs old and it gave me a smooth, close and comfortable shave this morning
Case 6/8 Red Imp 133, full hollow. Soap was PdP lathered with a Semogue Galahad, and Speick AS finished up a great shave
