The scales look like burl wood, mostly, but not exactly.

I happen to be fixated on scale material at the moment.

It is but I think the scales are original as I have several other ivory clad Ragg razors :happy088:

Super cross razor was the weapon of choice, sterling soaps haverford for suds and smells, and the rubab firefly and the ole Clydesdale shell for that glassy smooth draw while stropping! Compress_20231004_222808_8255.jpg

The difference in the way that the two pins were pinned, made me wonder

Stabilized Burly Maple, according to the maker, Andrey Shpakovskiy .
Mine looks and feels a lot like plastic. But, I'm not too familiar with that material.

Harder than woodpecker lips and generally a nightmare to work with , burl wood is gnarly stuff , anytime I've worked with you have to stabilize it in cactus juice or penetrating epoxy .

The Vintage Life Licorice Shaving Soap lathered well with Semogue 1305 Boar brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Weck Sextoblade and Personna Hair Shaper Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Dickinson's Witch Hazel and then Lustray Spice After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    H. Diamond for the blade of choice , and most excellent shave. These H. Diamonds have a style all their own , they just scream cool.

The sharp eye of @DrStrange has had me wondering if my Ragg with the two different pins had been rescaled or repinned. So, I took a look at my other ivory scaled Raggs. Lo and behold, they all have the same pattern. :git:

I’ve often wondered if John & Wm Ragg made the razors that Lund sold so I checked my Lund ivories as well. One fits the pattern, one does not. So, not sure if this was a time period thing or a manufacturer kind of thing or just random. :signs002:

See pic below - First three are Ragg’s, bottom two are Lunds.

Perhaps the razor manufacturers bought their ivory scales with the wedges already pinned?
