A Thanksgiving day shave , with a swedish steel azuma near wedge. I finally honed this guy up and boy did it deliver a great bbs shave!

I think Axeman has the pass around goods! Congratulations on the haul sir!

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow TSDers, I hope that you’re having good times, good food, and a good shave of course!

Unusual razor up today, an 11/16 Tanifuji ‘Springwater’ or ‘Clearwater’. Thanks to friends for the translation help. David also shared that this is the name of one of his mentors in Japan, so it’s likely a surname. The extra kanji with a following period on the scales is probably an initial? This would make this a bespoke Tanifuji, I think the only one that I’ve seen. Shaves incredibly well BTW.

It is extra hollow so has good crisp feedback and a one pass shave ability.

It’s probably the Swedish steel that makes it so good

What exactly is Chemical Steel"? To me, it looks the same as Swedish Silver Steel from the color.

Take this with a grain of salt Scott, I read some where if it's a Japanese razor and it says chemical steel it's usually a steel from Germany. That could be 100 percent bs too

    Saturday Straights' Cold Water Shave

    Cold Water Rinse
    b-pure Shave Soap
    Frank Shaving Badger
    SXDGS 5/8
    CWR
    Hendrick's Witch Hazel
    Florida Water

The b-pure Shave Soap lathered well with the Frank Shaving Badger brush. Two passes and touch ups with the SXDGS 5/8 straight gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Hendrick's Witch Hazel and then Florida Water. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Just one of the many names for the steel all the makers used to make their razors seem more special. German razors do it too. I have blades that say Extra Tungsten or chromium, best silver steel and maybe there's a difference in what's added to the steel. The Japanese used Swedish steel mostly. The ones using Japanese steel say Masa, Tamahagane or Yasuki steel, made from iron sands from a river in Japan. That steel really is special.

I am a fan of Swedish Steel. I read on many places, over the years, that Japan imported steel from Sweden, for their razors. Whatever the chemical make-up is, the Swedish Steel razors always seemed brighter, and a little more resistant to oxidation.

Cape 1372, software was 3P and Myrsol Agua di Limon. A Semogue Galahad did the lathering.

User grade Tanifuji Wogen today. This razor had a good bit of pitting on the bevel, was a test for a Naniwa 400 grit diamond stone. I’ve been looking for a solution for the ‘heavy lifts’ that don’t leave deep scratches like a DMT 325 seems to leave. The DS removed metal quickly and I cleaned up the 400 scratches with a Shapton Glass 1k. Off a 325 DMT I would have used a SG 500.The DS did produce a large sawtooth fin, but I wasn’t trying to prevent it. A normal amount of honing through the progression left me with a nice looking bevel with no residual deep scratches. The shave was excellent!

Software was a repet of yesterday’s shave and an Omega 49 did the lthering.

Chose the daishi for today's shave! What a shaver! The balance of this blade impressed me the most. It left me bbs with a single pass and a few clean up strokes! Lathered up with m&m tobac fanaile ! Compress_20231126_155812_2755.jpg
