That is a hard to find razor, been looking for some time now. Very nice and just the right soap to compliment it

Thanks, Lou. The modern version of the razor with this name can be found quite readily, but from the online reviews I've read, they are best to be avoided (cheaply-made, a poor remake of the vintage models; plastic scales, yellow silk screen, etc).

BTW: I thought I read where you were not a fan of the MdC? :ahem: ;)

Nice shave today. The old brush has more life left in it than you would think. Have a good one.

In your opinion Lou how does going from a 12k to a strata which is roughly around 12k improve your edge?

I don't know the answer to that, I only know it seems to make a difference for me. Maybe because it is a natural stone?

I have heard that natural stones finish edges differently than man made...

I fond the naturals lend a softness or smoothness to the 12k edge.
Now, is the difference significant enough to warrant the cost of another natural finisher? I get some very nice shaves off the 12k, but in our chase for the perfect edge, we're open to trying new things.
I wasn't in a habit of using 'double-finishers' but since I acquired the Naniwa 12k and already had the naturals, it was worth doubling up to see if the edge improved.

Ok I can see going from man made to natural hones could makes a difference...however I will be using a phig then going to a strata both being natural hones....double natural finishers will an improvement in the finished edge happen is my question.

Kevin pretty much nailed it. For me the strata adds a silky smoothness that is just barely noticeable but is still there

I am so glad you got it Mike. I also love the razor and what could go better with those two than the MDC & Floid Blue. OUTSTANDING

The strata will give a smoother edge than the PHIG. Having used both, the grit and slurry of the Apache are finer than that I found on the "12k" Chinese stone. The strata reminds me very much of the Escher.

Slurry on the Strata then move to less and less slurry and more water until all water. ( I have not had as good of luck when I did not use a slurry) That's what seems to really click for me. I am no pro but I like the edges I get so that's what matters
