I find that my synthetic likes to be shook out mostly dry then the tips dipped as I build lather on my face. I end up dipping 3 to 5 times depending on soap. I start out with a soap paste on my face and hydrate it with small dips into a cup of water. My boar holds water in the knot more so I dip less and my badger needs the least dipping because it holds the most water without soaking my chest.

I really like my synthetic knots as well. For folks used to badger trying a synth for the first time, I think the tendency exists to try to use the brush in the same manor we'd use badger, which is just too much water for the synth to retain.

The softest brush I own is my Jack Black Pure Performance synthetic, which I believe uses the Muhle knot. Actually much softer than any of my silver tips or HMW's.

Good info here, thanks both Lindy & Mike. That's what I am doing wrong. I really want to dial it in because I love the feel of the synthetic. I shall work on it

Stick to your guns Lou, when you dial it in you're gonna love it.

I find that after the first week or so of dialing in I want to reach for my synthetics more. I Have only used a natural hair brush a handful of times since I've gotten my synthetics.

I used a gold dollar 5/8 full hollow round end.
I got it from a denizen who didn't like the experience of sr shaving.
he said that he bought it and had it honed, but still no love.
I used it today. the workmanship is evident in some of my other razors, this one is definitely of a different mindset. but it felt nice in the hand, good weight, and was sharp. three passes made a good shave. I didn't feel the need to touch up with a de. for the cost of this razor, it is ok.
have some of you more experienced guys even looked at these?
would I be a disservice by passing it to someone else looking to try? 20151214_104346.jpg

10 hours post shave, still almost a BBS. This kind of shave is why I switched to straights.

Never a disservice to pass along a good shaving straight to a new person to get them into straight shaving! Just be sure to show a few of your nicer pieces to said n00b to demonstrate should the desire to upgrade strike, you've already planted the seed...:D

I'll be test shaving 2 razors today. I was interrupted while honing to eat supper but as soon as I polish off my last plate I'll finish up my 2 razors and shave half my face with each one. I'm sporting a 3 day growth so it should be a good test.

My cruddy, hone-worn, bevel-shot Montgomery-Ward mail order catalog straight. A sentimental favorite. OLD Old Spice, Bushcraft Boar, and T&H Ultimate Comfort. If you haven't tried T&H UC, you owe it to yourself. Without a doubt my favorite soft shaving cream.

Just an incredibly smooth and enjoyable shave today. The brush really amazed me today. I am catching on to the water ratio. Thx to lindyhopper and Mike for the help. I think this brush is going into my rotation

This scent isn't listed on her site, but Kathleen (@Salty Belle ) sent me a tub of it to try.
I like the scent. Not overpowering but to my nose, I get a subtle masculine 'leather/tobacco' fragrance. :happy088:
My wife REALLY enjoyed the scent on me post-shave. She described it as 'masculine, slightly citrusy, tobacco scent…'
Perhaps Salty Belle will chime in...
