No shave in the world beats a good straight shave! Congrats on taking the plunge. We love to see new blood (well, poor choice of words, maybe...) here in the SSotD! Truth be told, of all the methods I've used to shave with in the past, I've shed less blood with straights than anything else, quite possibly as I'm forced to focus on what I'm doing and not simply robotically stroking my face with a "safe" sharp. And at the same time getting better shaves than I could ever get with carts or DE's.

Take your time, enjoy The Ritual, and have fun with the learning process. Any questions, fire away. Some of the best fellows and most helpful straight shave facilitators in the world inhabit this thread.

Stay with it, shoulder to the wheel, and soon you'll have no desire to mow down whiskers by any other method.

Truth in this. I was thinking just this week that when I attempt to touch up or do a whole pass with a DE instead of my straights, my face doesn't like it. I get less cuts and less irritation by far with a straight.

 

Thanks Wim, the Hoshi Tombo 8000 is a absolutely fantastic shaver could even be my favourite razor.
