Freidel Koch rescaled and honed by Glen ( gssixgun) on a Zulu and a very nice soft comfortable edge it is
DR Harris Rose crème with MDC Fourgere for an awesome ubelather
Brushcraft handle by Chris Trimble with a FS knot that I set extra deep. Love the way it lathers

I agree wholeheartedly with wetter lather. I was told that early on in straight shaving and it's true. In fact as I shave the right cheek the left cheek may get a bit dry, so I just make it wetter as I go.

Japannippon on ebay has drastically cut his prices on Japanese razors. You can almost get two for $100 in some cases. Just letting the new people know.

I experienced this drying problem. I am not yet fast enough to shave before it all dries, rewetting or relathering has been necessary.

I am with Lindy on this, wet lather is the bomb.

And upon the advice found here, I will be mixing it really wet today. Shave coming up in a couple of hours, should be good!

There is a fine line there so don't get it too wet. I like to make my lather then wet may face real good each time I apply it. Best of luck, it is a learning process that depends on soap and brush

I went with maybe 25% more water and worked it longer than I had before. It worked better, and did not dry up as fast.

In browsing older razors, models with the descriptive term "Barber Notch" appear sometimes in sale listings. Yours appears to be one bearing the notch. What is the purpose or significance of that design feature?

I've read a variety of explanations on the origins on how and where the 'hollow' tip design, now commonly referred to as 'barber's notch'- came to be, but none have I found ultimately convincing. The plausible one I hear often is the indentation in the tip allows the user (or barber) to use a finger to grip the hollowed out end near the spine for support when doing a two-handed pass. I'm certain others here have read or heard other purported reasoning behind the tip design.

Kevin's posit is as good as any. It seems no one is actually sure, and it is often a point of speculation :).
