I once owned a Kikuokan 77, and it was a darn fine shaver :)

TIPTLE. I don't have nearly as many straights these days to rotate through the SSotD!

What it lacks in quantity these days, I hope it makes up for in quality :)

Mike, what is the top photographed blade toe shape called? I've only seen it in your photos.

And let me say again, I came away quite impressed with the edge on that Diamond 8k! :happy088: I'm tempted to use it again but my succumb to the overwhelming urge to give the FON a test drive tonight instead!

They're both golden Kevin. Like all good J-Wests, they take a sharp, smooth shaving edge almost effortlessly. As I've said before, those two I almost couldn't part with, but had I decided to keep them, it would have been my Iwasaki carbon and/or my Tanifuji Cape 77. It was a darn close decision. Historical significance won by a nose.

Lindy, the point was called a Spanish by TI, but I think this was only because it kind of defied characterization, and they had to call it something. Since it was ground in 1884, whatever Pierre Theirs was thinking is lost to history. It definitely doesn't look like your typical Spanish point...

That thing is as close to perfect condition as any new straight I've ever seen...hard to believe it's probably 40 years old.
