    W & B 7/8 notched, horn scales. That smile sure makes for a good shave!

    I also only have 3 shavers but just use 2 of them. I thought it to be redundant to keep posting after a while.

    I will keep posting, because the only way to be a part of something is to be a part of something. You should post too, I get the feeling that there is a fraternal atmosphere amongst those who post here, I bet we all don't mind.

    It is not redundant, we never get tired of looking at pictures or hearing stories of SR shaving. I also find it helps me to post. As @Bama Samurai said it adds to the fraternal atmosphere and sense of community.

    I've seen it run the gambit from looking like tree bark, to as nearly as pristine white as well preserved elephant ivory. Sorry about low pic quality, examples:

    I'd decided this wasn't the razor to cut corners on, thus the ivory.

    And I agree wholeheartedly about the straight shaving ritual. It is integral to turning the chore of shaving into the high point of the day, "Me Time".

    I hear you about the ritual and agree that it is a key part of the experience. Often, the best part of a trip is getting there.

    It's the buildup of the anticipation and thinking through the process in your head that adds to the enjoyment. Then, after you've completed the shave, you think it over and decide what worked, what didn't and what you'll do next time. It keeps your brain working in a good way and not on all of the other crazy things in life. That's good stuff!

    SR shaving definitely takes more time and prep work than DE shaving, but I am beginning to see it as time well spent!

    today's shave was different.
    I've struggled to get an edge on this razor. failed twice and started over. some may have to to do with the wear on the razor, some due to my inexperience, and maybe some difference in the steel. but I eventually arrived at an edge that was straight and appeared smooth. it treetopped hairs.
    so this morning I tried the friodur again. it shaved and cut close. but just felt short and choppy. by the end of the third pass,I hot a little used to it, but still felt a bit like shaving with a boxcutter.
    I had wanted this blade pretty badly, so expectations may have been set high. I can't say this razor is gonna be one of my favorites.
    I did end with a pretty good shave, very smooth, maybe not as comfy.
    here's the;

    is the 472 Friodur a half hollow designed to shave more wedge like and provide the audio feedback of a full hollow?

    How does one find mammoth scales? I still am blown away you can Evan use woolly mammoth being it's rarity.

    Huge troves of mammoth ivory have been found in Siberia. Pretty easy to locate on the knife-making websites :).
