You must know Frederick Reynolds very well to call him Freddy.

He originally was adamant that he be referred to as"Mr. Reynolds" but he's had a hard life, ground down and just dulled to the point of not caring anymore. It was at this point I rekindled our relationship, and with the help of a third party (Mr. Gssixgun), he is now feeling like his old self again. We plan on meeting regularly most mornings. He now is okay with my calling him, "Freddie." :D

Glen restored a large old FR for me as well, a fat wedge. Whisk, whisk, away go the whiskers.

Hacket Walther Gates Hardware Store razor that I just bought. These are the seller's photos, as I don't have a convenient way to upload my own right now. I got a nice deal on it, and the seller advertised it as having been honed in a Naniwa progression, and seemed to know what he was talking about, but the blade isn't as keen as I would like. I used my balsa strop on it and then gave it 40 laps on my Poor Man's Strop and it gave a decent shave. Not great, but decent. I will probably do some additional honing to get the edge a little better, but I'm happy to have a barber notch blade, as I've been wanting one for some time. And I believe the scale are actually black hard rubber. When I used some Simichrome to polish the whole thing up, the scales gave off a rubber smell just like my old hard rubber fountain pens do. The odd shape of the scales actually makes for a good ergonomic handle when stropping too.

I have one I picked up at an antique store without scales that was pretty minty (Hackett Diamond). Very nice shaver. I really like this blade shape.

Hmm, the picture worked on my email notification, but now it's just a missing picture icon... Anyway, yours looks much nicer than mine, but I definitely agree, the shape is quite nice to work with. I've been getting fairly decent shaves from it this week, but I keep having to finish it off with one pass ATG with my DE on my neck because it just won't finish the job there. Could be my technique, but I can get it done with my John Williams when it's got a good edge on it.

I tried a shave on Friday without success, so I found a thread on SRP about honing wedges, as this is a near wedge to wedge. Glen Mercurio/gssixgun added a post that helped me get the edge right. One pass shave that reminded me of traditional Japanese kamisori.

That Beau Brummel is in great shape. I've had two and one I had to trash as the celluloid scale rot was dissolving the blade. What's the blade width? I believe mine are 5/8.
