Very nice shave today. Glen put a wicked edge on this one. I'm finally figuring out how to use it without letting the spike bite me

Just got this one back from its first hone. It is also the first traditional straight I used. Dove Best Quality 5/8 and Classic Shave Brush. Straight Razor comp.jpg

I really like the scales on that razor. Very nice.

:thanks: It was one of two that I inherited from my grandpa many years ago. I wish I had his strop. I remember it hanging on the bathroom closet door when we'd visit and I'd always wonder how a strip of leather had anything to do with keeping a razor sharp. :signs002:

So did you use only ONE side (i.e. traditional kamisori shave with the stamped side always facing outwards?) or both?

I do both sides with a Japanese grind. I have not figured out how to shave with just the Omote side facing out. I'll have to try that again. Do you do it that way?

I've done it both ways. Either will get you there (i.e. A quality shave). Single sided is a greater challenge and requires greater contortions, dexterity and practice. Sometimes I like the challenge; other times I use the simpler 'both sides' method.

I think I will follow your lead. I'll try traditional occasionally until I figure it out.

I took out my no name Soligen this morning as I have not used it in a couple of months. I stropped it, lathered up and got a very satisfying DFS.
