You're right. That's what I've mostly found in antique/junk stores. I made some decent finds in a few Danville, Virginia antique stores as well, paying $30 per razor for a clean, shave ready razor...but nothing like the Bartmann. I'd been seeing them on ebay for around $600, not NOS. I paid $120 and worried I was paying too much. That was in my early days of collecting. I lucked out in buying a Palmera and few other uncommon finds on forums as well for great prices.

Oh man, $120...in retrospect I'll bet you feel silly for worrying about overpaying! I've found some fun razors antiquing (some nice old W&B's, an NOS Perrex, a sweet old RanTanKaRus Red Devil swayback, things of this nature), but nothing of the Bartmann magnitude! But each new search yields the thrill of the chase...I cling to hope ;)

Tonight was the Perrex 5/8 (was NOS but required rescaling...)
    Omega 10098 Bowl Monster
    Proraso Green (lifetime supply...or so...)
    CC Cat O' Nine Tails!

It appears to be. I've tried to ferret out information about it without success...

I feel so self-conscious posting pics of my ebay 'cheapies' in this thread where there's a glut of outrageously gorgeous $traights on display. :ashamed001:
However, I did manage one of my best straight shaves ever last night with my newly-honed humble Herskovitz.
I attribute this to two factors: my improved technique in both the shave and the honing.

Anyone want to place bets on which of my two Wostenholm's I used this weekend? Yesterday's shave was great, borderline BBS face and neck! Today's shave was not as good, but more then good enough for me.

My friend, some of my best shavers are coincidentally my ugliest razors. If I pick up a razor, and get a great shave from it, I keep it, regardless of cosmetics. If it doesn't give me a good shave, it's a goner, regardless of cosmetics.

THEREFORE: In an effort to alleviate some of your concerns about the posting of only Beauty Queens on SOTD, for this next week, which I proclaim to be UGLY RAZOR/GREAT SHAVE WEEK, I will post every razor I shave with. Typically I make about four SOTD posts in a week. That's because the other three days I'm shaving with some super high performing Ugly Ducklings. But not this week. You're gonna get it with both barrels. Cause I've got a lot of ugly razors.

So This morning I selected one of my favorite razors. It's a 4/8 Koken Gazelle. Blade length is like 2". Completely undesireable. And ugly. I paid three bucks for it because I figured I'd hone it up and PIF it to some new straight shaver. It refused all efforts to become clean and presentable. When I shave tested it, I said to myself "this thing is going NOWHERE but into my rotation! I usually dislike smaller razors, but this thing is SO nimble on your face, and it takes an edge like a Fili 14. It's never bit me or misbehaved in any way.

Presented next to a container of Ren Wax, because this ugly prom date has never seen a molecule of it before.

Lindyhopper- That is a GORGEOUS Tanifuji! A nice one is on my list of Razors to Aquire.

I thought my Tanfuji pretty plain. I'll shave with uglier razors or at least plain ones this week. Beauty is in the eye of the shaver, right?

I don't think Jamie has a single ugly razor to join us.

You are right Robert but I do restore enough ugly ones for forum members maybe that's the reason I don't have any, I could be the Hugh Hefner of the straight razor world welcome to my mansion of beauties Robert.;)

Pretty much any quality J-West is a thing of beauty to me. You know the Iwasaki westerns were all scaled by Tanifuji based on the quality of his work.

Jamie- Your skills far exceed mine. If you're the Hugh Heffner, I'm this guy:
