Fourth day in a row with a straight... Very unusual for me. Two passes as usual and not the best, but still very passable results.

I tried out a Freshly honed razor, and had a very nice, smooth, three pass shave.

    Razor- W.R.Case & Son's "Bull's Eye" razor
Brush- Vintage Ocean boar from Germany
    Soap- Vintage Yardley
    Aftershave- Yardley Gold(sandalwood scented)

A wonderful shave from a freshly honed razor. It was a two pass shave, that went very smoothly. I do like this razor, a lot. I have never heard of it, before I bought it, but I took a chance.

    Razor- "Respect" Best Silver Steel
    Brush- Zenith Boar
    Soap- Stirling Ozark Trail
    Aftershave- Vintage Old Spice

SOTD: Had a fun shave late this morning with this recently acquired & restored Sheffield-made 5/8” ‘Rattler’ from Frederick Reynolds (circa 1860-1880). Dyed horn scales to mimic tortoise shell, lead wedge, blank metal engraving plate, and brass hardware. Nimble razors. I’ve often seen this style referred to ‘swayback’ ‘humpback’ or even ‘faux frameback’—but the ‘rattler grind’ is quite distinct. However one refers to them, they are great shavers.

Shave 24. I used the near wedge I got in a trade with @Norcalnewb. With nearly three days of growth I ended up with a good shave. Not what I've been getting from my Otto Busch but something I was pleased with. My very early take as a noob on the wedges/near wedges is that they offer less of a sweet spot than the hollow grounds but they are smoother. At least, that's my empirical data from the two experiences I've had. A small amount of feedback from the Alum block, certainly less than with my extra hollow ground razor, but harder to get good reduction. :chores016:

Just a warm water wash while in the shower. Followed by my old Dovo 5/8 with a sandlewood soap that's really old as well.

The new Dovo silver steel should be showing up today. I received my new soaps yesterday but am waiting in a new dish for them.

I'm still getting back into the learning curve on the straight razor after many years away from it. After honing the old Dovo, things are much nicer. I bought plenty of new supplies thanks to all the great info on this forum. Thanks to all who have posted on TSD forums. It's helped so much. I shaved blindly as in without any guidance for years. I now have rekindled that love affair with a straight razor shave. There just isn't anything that really compares to that super close, baby's bottom feeling you get with using a proper straight razor.

A little by little - I'm happy as long as they keep getting better. Progress is now more from familiarity with the easy areas and experimenting in the difficult ones. :happy088:

I think I am bleeding less as well.

I'm always happy with my shaves, as long as I don't slice myself, or pull the hairs out by the roots.

I'm taking a few less nicks as I get back into it. Each time I do it,mite usually because I wasn't thinking or paying attention. I decided to invest in a alum block. I have a few known bumpy areas I know I need to watch out for, but when enjoying the shave, I tend to forget these trouble spots. The trickle of blood is a much need reminder.
