Because they are fine looking razors, both are on my bucket list of must buys. I have many saved searches in the bay but they quickly escalate to overpriced. Being a first straight acquisition and not skilled nor equipped in the art of major restoration, the project razors are out of the question. I am patient so my day will come. Until then I will live vicariously through these posts and continue to scour the web to find the must haves

Tonights 2 pass shave with a 3rd on the neck going S to N. I did nick right under my nose trying to get the hairs right there. My Alum SCREAMED at me there, but nowhere else. The cheeks are very smooth tonight. Under the jaws a bit of stubble going ATG. The neck is my trouble spot. I need to shave across but have not figured out a way yet. All in all a decent shave.

I had some time this morning for a straight razor shave. I used my Engstrom frameback and enjoyed a wonderful shave!

My first straight razor shave in over a month, so I was a bit rusty. Nonetheless a very nice shave. Two passes (a mix between with, across and against the grain) and my face feels pretty smooth. Maybe not BB smooth - but relatively close :happy088:

Great shave tonight. Easy two pass shave. No cuts, nicks, or weepers. I tried a shave cream that I have not used for a while. It's tobacco scented overload. I have not tried a tobacco scented cream that is stronger. It's made in Macedonia, and the wording is Russian, French, and Spanish, on the box. It was gifted to me, a couple of years ago. I've tried to find it, online, but hadnt been able to, a couple of years ago. Good stuff.

This was the hardest for me learn in straight razor shaving. For BBS I need to go against the grain and on my neck that means go from ear towards the middle of my neck.

To do this you need use both hands. For the right side I use my right hand and hold the razor upside down and use my left hand to reach over my head and pull the skin tight. While you are doing this open your jaw to move the skin up even farther. Just do the opposite for the left side.

You may shed some blood learning this pass so I have the following suggestions:
Practice with a shavette without a blade to build the muscle memory.
Use a round point razor, a square or spike point can easily lead to blood.
If it feels uncomfortable or 'not right' put down the straight razor, back away and finish with a DE. Try it again the next time you shave.

Good description, unfortunately I only have one hand, the hook dosnt help. I rely on moving my head and silently singing opera to flatten the neck enough to get the blade that direction.

Shave 25. Just a really nice shave. I used my new and seemingly NOS John Clarke NEVA for the first time. This has to be the sharpest edge I've ever shaved with. The seller did a fine job honing it in advance and it left a couple of silent slices. The reduction was great. After two passes my face was as smooth as most of my earlier three pass shaves. I think the end result is the closest straight shave I've had yet. It's on par with a really nice 1912 shave I had earlier this week to celebrate SEptember. :happy036: The alum, however, made it clear I could have gotten by with less pressure. ;)
