I've taken a break from straights for the last few weekends, but will be making a return soon...

I don't blame you. It would take an awful lot to part me from mine.
However, I used my J.R. Torrey today.

Back to straight razor shaves for the next week or so. I selected my Grandfather's 1920'ish (?) G. Wostenholm and Son CANUCK straight today. This is the first straight razor I've used. It was originally offered to me about 5 years ago but I declined, that was probably the correct choice at the time. Time moved on and I stumbled across tradition wet shaving and this great community. When my Dad once again offered me my Grandfather's straight razor, I was ready.
I only own two straight razors (both are G. Wostenholm's), so it's hard to say if this is a "good" razor. I can with absolute confidence say that it is and will continue to be a very special razor. I look forward to being able to pass it along to my son.

I tried a test shave with this razor when I got it on Tuesday and wasn't satisfied with the edge. I touched it up with some pastes and still wasn't satisfied. I've realized in the last several months that if an edge shaves but isn't exactly right, it's best to go back to bevel-setting. Today's shave was just right.

Shave tested this beautiful Robeson 5/8 extra hollow Shuredge before selling it. What a sublime shaver after 2 trips to the hones! Easy on the eyes as well.

    Mornin' Fellows!
The big move is over, and we're finally settled in and unpacked enough for me to resume SOTD posts! Nice to see some new folks in addition to The Usual Suspects are holding down the fort!
Today is a lovely little FW Engels obtained in a trade from another great member of another great forum. He'd had a little 4/8 RanTanKaRus Red Devil that he'd traded away and always regretted. I had one for him and received this little gem and a lovely Robeson in trade. Needed some love and clean up before use, but it's a dandy little shaver!
