What Straight Razor Did You Use Today?

Hey Karl, I just snagged your razors brother.

 

Is it a NEVA? If so, take a loupe to examine the end head on to look at the blade profile. Mine has a very thin belly. You can feel it as well if you hold the blade between your thumb and forefinger and run them from spine to edge. I've really liked this razor. Pretty noisy as you might imagine.

EDIT: I read the last page first and just saw your SOTD pic and description on the prior page.

Wait until you use a heavy and thick wedge. That will definitely throw you off, hardly any audible feedback.

 

NEVA is the model. I haven't seen anything as to what it stands for - as you can see on the tang stamp it's an acronym - N.E.V.A.

 

I've never heard any razor until this one. I can't hear much of anything without my hearing aids.

 

I'm doing my best to keep a safe distance from that slippery slope I see coming closer - but what I will really need someday is something to replace the lapping film I use for a 3 micron then 1 micron refresh. I don't use the 3 micron much but do now and then - usually when a blade comes in from eBay that isn't quite shave ready. I use .5 micron diamond spray on felt after the lapping film. Eventually I'm going to get tired of buying lapping film but it does work well. Dare I invite suggestions?

Super nice shave tonight with my noisiest razor. I refreshed the edge on my Arkie tonight. I am digging this stone.

I broke out my Bunny to finish my small spots on my neck. Nary a stubble in sight.

I'm immune to the allure of the Arki.

Some time ago, I had a black one on loan for a number of weeks. Incredibly hard stone...at least this sample was....felt like honing on glass. It takes some time and work to get the results you're after. I managed to get some good edges but found the stone more challenging than I cared to devote more time to. Some honers swear by 'em; others are more tepid in their reviews.

Another tool in the arsenal. All it takes is more $$ to add another to the rock pile.

Its Been Said in Many Quarters that an Arkie Stone is Not Suitable for Finishing Razors..Well..All I have to Say is this..A .50 Cal Smith & Wesson is Not Suitable for Blowing Away the Bad Guys Either..

today i used the filly 13 dobbel temple. awesome shaver.this one is finished on a black ark.perfect fit

 

I was using the same film as you at first. I invested in the Norton 4/8k, and still
Finish on 1 micron lapping film. The Norton 4K I'll set a bevel with some work. I just got the Norton 1 k for bevel setting, but I maybe should have got a nice finisher instead I'd do the Norton combination with your lapping film, and see where it leads from there.

I use my hone time as type of relaxation. So I don't care how long it takes. I will never be able to hone for a living that way

Aye..Its an Interesting One that Kevin about the Arkies..They are Very Hard Stones..Some Say the Hardest..I Personnaly Find Mine as Easy to Use as Buttering Toast & its a Wee Hand Held 4 x 2 Inch Job..I Get Awesome Feedback as Well..
