Today's shave was with a freshly restored(partially), and freshly honed Monkey Tail Razor. It took a very sharp edge, and delivered a BBS 2 pass shave, with minor touchups. No nicks, cuts, or weepers. Excellent razor.

    Brush- B 400, By Tom

It's been a long two days. Long story short...my father-in-law who lost both legs to diabetes spent the last two weeks with us and yesterday we drove half way to ND to meet my wife's brother and wife for his trip back home.
We left early in the morning for our 8 hour drive songs didn't shave. I should have known it was going to be a bad day
    [IMG]
That was the first 70 miles and it got worst. The areas we drove through got 9.5 to 12 inches of snow. It was a white knuckle drive.
We had a good dinner and a few drinks and this morning we parted ways. Because we left early I didn't shave AGAIN and after the first 100 miles of torrential rain we ran into 100 miles of this
    [IMG]
By the time we got home it was 63 degrees
    [IMG]
After two days of getting up early and not shaving I treated myself to a nice warm shower and a cold water shave. I stropped and had a very enjoyable shave of the night first. Truly a phenomenal 2 pass smooth shaven face.
I forgot to take a pictures of the gear but since I am focusing on one SR combination I am re-using a picture.

I chipped my PRC kamisori but my PRC Chimera is still without injury. Honed the PRC Kami up today so we will see how I did.

Vintage William Greaves & Sons 'Sheaf Works' 6/8" Horn of Plenty razor. Shaving with my non-dominant hand for the entire shave was a slow process, but not impossible. I'm happy with the results as no blood was spilled...;)

I was organizing my straights this weekend and came across my first straight. The one that started it all.
The edge was not so good, because of my early stropping technique. I honed it on Saturday. This morning I took it for a spin and got a wonderful shave. This is a very nice blade.
The razor is a Faultless and I'm not sure who made it. It's definitely a keeper.

Cedric at Ali's Blades, it's a 9/8's chopper with barbers notch. I got this one second hand for a great price they can be pricy but he does gorgeous work. Lots of shapes and styles, damascus, San mai ect.

If you hold it traditionally, it loops around your fingers, for a more secure feel. If you use it like I do, like a Kamisori razor, and sometimes traditionally, for angles, it can feel awkward. This one takes a very wickedly sharp edge, that's fun to use, but conversely awkward. Awkward, because the blade is like using a shortly blade. I'm not use to a shortly, but I adapt fast, and obtained a superb shave.
Oh, the Monkey Tail just looks cool, like a folding Kamisori, with angled scales.

    Yesterday evening shave

    • Prep: hot washing cloth
    • Razors: Antiga Barbearia de Bairro - Navalha - Straight Razor Shavette / albino Schick Injector mod. L
    • Blades: (Antiga) Shark saloon / (Schick) Personna
    • Soap: Arko
    • Brush: Everclean boar
    • Shave: 2 pass + touch-up
    • Post: cold water rinse

A quickie (should have hit the sack an hour and a half earlier). The Antiga Barbearia de Bairro shavette is made in Portugal. It takes half DE blades as well as Injector and Feather blades. It is a sturdy stainless steel shaver, that feels nice in the hand. I bougth the Antiga (as I'll be calling her for now) a couple of weeks ago and this was its fifth or sixth shave. First pass ATG with the Antiga, 2nd pass ATG + touch-up with the Schick. I was rewarded with a baby butt smooth shave! It is now almost 24 hours later and the stubble is just starting to come through. Just.

I am planning to place a full review of the shavette soon. :) But I'll have to make better pictures first. ;)

Thanks to @DaltonGang 's post on the Russian Razor thread I realized it was May Day and time to break out a commie razor. I really like Russian steel and a smiling blade. This early 1970s Utro (Morning) was just the ticket. :happy036:

I chipped the edge on this razor and had to hone it. I thought I nailed it, it looked great through loupe, it seemed to be cutting arm hair so I was really looking forward to today's shave. Alas a massive honing failure, it was not cutting hair at all, at least it was not rough. I had a SE with a blade loaded and had to use it to finish the shave. Back to the hones for another try. Sadly this was one of my best shavers,:sad024:

Fresh restoration and second attempt at a shave. I failed the first attempt due to inexperience at honing. The good news is that the second attempt was a huge success:). Super close and comfortable and dolphin smooth:)

Yep, major bummer, but I am sure that you will get the bevel set correctly on the next try.

    May Day Shave.
Today's shave was with a touched up Russian(1953) razor. It needed a little heel work, so, since I had all the rocks out, I just tossed it in the mix. I took it back to the 12k, then 15k, then the SB Arkie progression. Laser sharp, two pass shave, with BBS results.

    Razor- "EKSTRA" ZTV 1953
Brush- Vintage unknown Boar. It's a mighty mite of a brush. One of my favorites.
    Soap- Stirling Spicy
    Aftershave- Osage Rub

Comrade, unless I am mistaken that is a 1956. Da, a very good year. :happy088: Interestingly, my Extra has the date stamped on the other side. :signs002:

Why yes, you are correct. I wasn't reading it correctly, 1956, not 1953.
