It seems to me that I've been away from this thread for way too long. Im very envious of you guys that get to use your SRs every day. Due to time restraints, I just get to use my SRs from Friday through Sunday.

Today I used my Case Temperite wedge. I could feel it tugging all through the first pass, so I'll refresh that edge tonight. I did manage 3 passes and, despite the tugging, I ended up with a smooth close shave.

Have you ever thought about shaving at night? That way you shouldn't be so hurried.

Tonight's shave was with a freshly acquired, restored, and honed razor. I had a very smooth and noisy 2 pass shave, that left me SMOOOOOTH. No issues at all, just a very solid performing razor.

The perfect storm this morning, every once and awhile everything comes together, great shave all the way through post shave homemade concoction. When i was a kid and first started shaving my old man's advice was to put milk on my cheeks and have the cat lick the whiskers off but a cats tongue is much to rough to compare to this mornings shave. Smooth as Sparky's tongue however. Have a good one.

Mines a really good shaver too. These were distributed by Simmons hardware out of St Louis in the 30's,

They aren't big, but the blade is straight as an arrow, and the steel is very good. Very agile razor.

    CWR, Asma Alum Block
    Thayer's Lemon WH
    Aqua Velva Musk AS

This is my first shave with this razor since I made new scales for it. I busted one of the scales pinning, but I was able to repair it. I am happy to have successfully made a pair of scales for this razor.

The Col Conk Bay Rum Shaving Soap face-lathered well with my Heldtite Synthetic brush. I did one passe the Wade & Butcher Spanish Tip 5/8 and the second with the New Improved w/Rockwell Swedish Stainless. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I took out my Kiebitz this morning and did a three pass shave. This razor never disappoints! I had a near BBS shave!

    Razor: Portland Razor Co Chimera
    Strop: Drygulch 45
Brush Handle: B-400 The Brush by Tom
    Knot: APShaveCo Tuxedo
    Soap: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary
    Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel
    Alum
    Osage Rub
Aftershave: Catie's Bubbles Le Marche Du Rasage

Mixed emotions this morning. I tried my first straight only shave. There were some positives; no blood, almost zero feedback from the alum and I ended up with a DFS. Plus this soap and AS combo are fantastic. The negatives were all in my first pass, it was very uncomfortable. The blade almost felt as if it was hesitating and I had to use an uncomfortable amount of pressure to stop it from jumping. To eliminate a sharpness concern I grabbed a fresh off the hones razor that I know was done correctly but I had the same issues with it. The 2nd and 3rd passes went great once the initial reduction was done. Could it be that my beard is just too coarse? I really don't like to use hot water because I get some irritation when I do but I need to use something you soften up the hairs. I'm open to suggestions.

It may be as simple as your angle. Try adjusting that.

Thanks Tom. I tried everything from shallow to so open it was just scraping; the shallow was definitely better but still tugged.

Berkshire Cutlery. Surely a "blue collar " mans razor from the 30's. Simple no frills shaver: no jimps, blade etching or other adornments. Simple functionality at it's best, which is the reason I really like this one. Three passes over a day and a half growth and bbs.
Scott: if you decide to get rid of yours, let me know:)
