Today's shave was with a newly acquired, and honed wedge razor, from Olean NY. I had a very very sharp and smooth 2 pass shave, that left me BBS, and with a couple of weepers. I didn't know they were there, until the aftershave went on. I guess I did a few too many strokes on the Arkansas Surgical Black Stone. Too Sharp. These Union Cutlery "Spike Razors", are a beautifully built and a perfectly balanced razor, that can take on an edge, sharper than is needed.

Razor- Union Cutlery Co. "Spike". True Wedge razor.
    Brush- Omega 10098 Boar
    Soap- Arko/Rose Scented
Aftershave- Shulton Old Spice. NOS Admiral Decanter. Take that @Douglas Carey . I had to wipe off the dust from the box. :D

Those Spikes are real bargains too. I've had a few of them but, as you found with your green Spike, these razors are far too easy to over-hone. they will take a painfully-sharp edge, one that often required some softening post-hones. I found the majority of shaves with the Spikes too harsh and they inevitably wound up with other wet-shavers.

Well, any you don't want, throw my way. I'm sure I can find a use for them. I have plenty of Alum. All kidding aside. They do tend to easily take on a wicked edge. So, I might just take it down to the 15k Welsh, and keep the Arkie SB away from these.

Thank you. It was made by Shane at Flaquito Leather. I also have one of his strops and he does fantastic work. He actually custom made this pouch using a picture of the razor and brush I used in today’s SOTD picture. Here is his website.

I used my recently honed Frederick Reynolds (center) for a slow but acceptable shave. Tried a little against the grain but didn't want to test fate too much. Minor irritation but given it was the first straight razor shave Ive attempted Ill take it!

Need to watch some more videos as I really struggled with some angles and using my left hand.[IMG]

How old are these razors? They look like classic tools to me.

Top is a W.H.Morley and Sons Clover Brand circa 1913-1927. Middle is the Frederick Reynolds circa 1892. The bottom which Im waiting to get the coin together to restore is a Joseph Elliot, not sure of the date the brand points towards 1821-1850 but from what I've heard the size of it lends people to believe it's on the older side of that range. All were flea market finds!

    Proraso Pre Shave
    Arko Extra Performance
    Jayaruh #216
    Lee Mfg. 5/8
    Schick G
    Personna Stainless
    CWR
    Thayer's Lemon WH
    Vegetal

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Arko Extra Performance Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #216 synthetic brush. I did the first pass with the Lee Mfg. 5/8 razor and cleaned up with my Schick G and a Personna Stainless blade. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Clubman Vegetal AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I used my Geo Wostenholm "peerless" this morning and had a wonderful shave. I did three passes, but the shave was fine after the second pass. I touched up this razor on my Naniwa 12k last night and what a difference it made.
