This one came to mind immediately. The roots for the fruits (Willie Dixon, more or less...).

My first shave with an edge I actually honed myself. The razor's an old Thomas Tillotson 6/8 wedge, and may be a fairly old one judging by the monkeytail/tang (?) and a couple of reference charts I've seen over on SRP. It took me a while to get a half-way decent bevel set, but after that it was all fairly smooth, thanks in large to Glen's very informative and helpful videos!. :smiley respect: The 45° heal-forward tip and that swooping x-stroke were brilliant. All in all I'm very happy with the first efforts and the shave was entirely acceptable. Nowhere near as sharp as Glen's edges, but plenty sharp enough for a close & even comfy shave. And of course it's just so nice to actually shave with an edge made by one's own hands. Fantastic! :happy088:

I also tried experimenting with some gun blue, and I think I'm liking it so far...

5/8 J.B.F. Champlin that's nearly a twin to my 6/8. Found it a couple of weeks back and couldn't resist! It's every bit as smooth as it's twin too. :)

Mike I feel sick as a parrot looking and hearing your story I'm absolutely gutted for you some of those razors are without doubt irreplaceable, I was going to hit the like button on your post but after reading that there's nothing to like about that disaster.

I have a Carl Schmidt Blue Steel razor. I wonder what that meant. Was it a special steel with more tungsten or molydenum or manganese?
