Cubancigar, That ESE is a sweety! I've never seen one with a French point and the fact that it's such a monster sized blade is just extra fun!

And Lindyhopper, I haven't see this Schultz from you before...too bad it has such a plain spine! :D

All righty, after the Great Tragedy, I'm finally feeling like getting back in the fight. Took an extra long time this morning to enjoy my shave and make it a good one. And Friends, it was good!

Jamie, I picked a Mastro Livi because I know they're your faves! :happy102:

Had my second ever straight razor shave today and was able to do a full WTG pass on my entire face and throat (even the area under the chin that I struggled with a lot the first time). Felt a lot more comfortable holding the razor. Still need some significant work on my technique as it's a very, very 'tuggy' shaving experience.
I'm confident I'll get there eventually though :)

And that my friend is the take home point, you'll get there :) . Go slow, think about what your doing. Experiment cautiously with getting your angles down and applying correct pressure. Always dedicate the time to practicing properly. There's no need to hurry. Quite the opposite, this is an extravagance we allow ourselves to enjoy..."me" time!

One thing I forgot to mention in the "Good" category is that with two shaves with this razor I haven't cut/nicked myself once where with my Shavette I draw blood every time :)

The 'tugginess' will gradually and eventually diminish to the point it wont be a factor—unless your edge is getting dulled without stropping.
I was so frustrated the first two weeks or so (not a very comfortable shaving experience at all!), all the while I was thinking,
"It (straight razor shaving) HAS to be better than this, otherwise those SR guys on the forum are clearly loco if they chose to do THIS voluntarily versus an easy, comfortable shave with a DE razor!"
Fortunately, I overcame my little tantrums and kept at it daily...one or two good passes & clean-up with a DE...until the time came where I eventually shed the DE razor as part of the shave.
This doesn't mean, of course, that the SR guys are NOT loco....:D

I use my Feathers as travel razors. Each time I use one if its been a while I have to remember that they are utterly without mercy. A fixed blade conventional straight will give a tiny bit of warning about a millisecond before it bites. The Feather lets you know you've been cavalier with a blood trail.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the history or maker of this razor stamped ESE??

Sounds like you're doing very well for just two shaves. Do what Mike says and also remember to stretch the skin. Use the lowest angle that actually cuts the whiskers with short strokes.

I've looked this up in the past and could find no information. "manah" on SRP usually can find information on any company or razor.

Joseph Rodgers & Sons; a heavy, smiling blade that I've learned to control & am rewarded with some very nice comfy shaves!
I've another set of the zebra wood scales with big blade awaiting finishing (a gift for my cousin), but that project will have to wait a while since I'll be out recuperating post-surgery in a few days.

A handy razor to have around because you never have to hone it. :angelic007: Actually, a nice shaving razor that's Sheffield made. Nice shave this morning. Have a good one. I have get around to changing these scales but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
