F.W. Engles “Special “. This one shaves exactly like my Dubl Duck only better!
Very loud shaver and takes one helluva edge.

Tonight's shave was with a Japanese Razor. I had a decent 2 pass shave, that left me with a DFS. I needed a little more stropping, and then did the touch-ups with it. I forgot how hard this Silver Steel was. Needs much more work than usual. .

    Razor- Japanese KYOEI #55.
Brush- RazoRock 400 and WD High Mountain Badger.
    Soap- Arko/Sandalwood Scented
    Aftershave- Arctic Blue

Challenge Razor Works... a “Clean Shave” out of Connecticut

I just whiffed on creating this edge, so killed it and went back to the natural combo Coticule for a couple of rounds. Much nicer this evening!

And I couldn’t let such a serious soap like DR Harris be whipped up without a little Joker :)

A Gelle-Freres Royal Suedois (Swedish) frameback that I 'de-frowned' and honed last night. Shave was great! Cream was SMN, and a splash of Lucky Tiger topped the morning off in good form!

    Cheers, Steve

Thanks for asking! Well, there’s no telling what mine really, there’s not enough ‘tells’ on the stone to even make an informed guess. Based on its hardness and fineness, I would guess one of the eastern mines, Nakayama, Ozuku, Narutaki, etc. Oddly, the box could be a clue. According to Alex Gilmore, those faux lizard leather boxes like the one that it came in date to the mid to late 1960s, and Nakayama was the about the only eastern mine open then, and this is a NOS stone. So I would guess Nakayama but based on the box and not so much the stone!

Yes, the pattern is karasu, Japanese for crow. The pattern reminded them of crows flying against an overcast sky. I wouldn’t call it an asagi, asagi is a kind of blue, and there’s no blue at all in it. The base is a kind of gray with a little warm tone to it, so I’d just call it a karasu.

    Cheers, Steve

Tonight's shave was with a newly restored and honed blade. I had a wonderfully Smooth and Noisy 2 pass shave, that left me BBS. Zero issues, just a nicely made razor. I will say, this is almost as noisy as the Russian Razors I own.

Razor- "Tonsorial Gem". F.A.Clauberg, New York. Made in Germany
Brush- JR#262. Ebony and Birdseye Maple. WD Silvertip Badger.
    Soap- Arko/Sandalwwood
Aftershave- Osage Rub. (Note to self: Don't rub your eye, after applying).
