Last week I finally had time to touch up the edge on my PRC Hydra . So decided to give it a test shave this morning. Considering that I haven't touched a straight in over two months I was expecting blood, there was none. Just two easy passes where I wiped away the lather and whiskers with the big, heavy, quarter hollow, chunk of American steel. I got a very nice edge on this razor by taking it back to the 3 micron film and then finishing it up on the 1 micron film. DFS after two passes, Ill take it!

Today's shave was with a great shaving Russian Razor. I had a very very smooth and noisy 2 pass shave, that left me BDBS. These Ruskies are made for using, and are made of some of the best steel I've encountered. Wickedly sharp and smooth.

    Razor- Russian. "EKSTRA" ZTV 1956
    Brush- Omega 10098 Boar
    Soap- Arko/Sandalwood scented
Aftershave- Avon Spicy. Triple Crown Decanter.

Nice to see another lapping film user for honing. I take mine down to 0.3 microns, which might be overkill.

Thank you, I have some .3 as well but haven't tried it yet. My edges seem plenty crisp off the 1 micron.

Keeping in mind what I started with, I’m pretty happy.

Today was the maiden voyage of the F.W Engels razor!!! It gave me a great shave and was a nice treat to have a other type of straight besides a GD66 to use. The point never caught me and actually helped me much more in keeping straight lines in my friendly mutton chops. Nice crisp edge that whiskers only gave a mild resistance before falling before it. Nice weight...can't praise this razor enough! Once again, thank you @M14Shooter! 20180927_091347.jpeg

Today's shave was with a NOS razor. It hadn't been used, but still had a sharp edge. But, not shave ready. I needed to do a lot of stropping(120 strokes), before I felt confident to use it. I had an Okay 2 pass shave, that surprisingly left me with a BBS shave. This razor could use a few laps on my Welsh Slates, to smooth it out. Other than that, this is a very well made, and fun little razor. As for the brush, this was its maiden voyage, and was a bit of a shedder, and stunk. I'm confident this will correct itself soon. It was soft, and lathered well.

Razor- "Ontario", by Geneva Cutlery Corp. Geneva New York.
Brush- Wilkinson Sword Boar Hair Brush. Solingen Germany. $6.90 shipped.
    Soap- Arko/Sandalwood scented
    Aftershave- Shulton Old Spice.

Yesterday, @Redfisher came up for a visit and brought some honing tools. He helped me put a better edge on my Acme 5/8 razor. This morning, I gave it the cheek test. After lathering up, I did my right cheek. I am happy to report that his/our efforts were successful. Not only is it sharp, it is smooth, too. I will put it back into my straights rotation. I am looking forward to shaving with it again.

Today's shave was with a nice American Made razor. I had a very smooth, 2 pass shave, that left me DBDS, with minor touch-ups on the chin. Zero issues, and a very well made razor. This is the second use of this brush, and it only shed three hairs. It looks like it will be a nice soft keeper.

Razor- Waterville Cutlery Co. Hand Forged, Extra Hollow Ground.
Brush- Wilkinson Sword Boar. Amazon $6.90 free shipping.
    Soap- Arko/Sandalwood scented
Aftershave- Vintage Avon Spicy. Vikings Horn Decanter

    Cold Water Wash
    LaToja Shaving Stick
    Jayaruh #319
    Fredrick Reynolds 5/8
    CWR
    Mennen Skin Bracer

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The LaToja Shaving Stick face lathered well with the Jayaruh #319 brush. I did two passes with the Fredrick Reynolds 5/8 Straight Razor and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Mennen Skin Bracer AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
