Beauty of a razor Keith - congrats on the pickup! :happy088:
Probably not giving any info you don’t already have, but we know it’s post WWII based on the name change from Dorten to DORKO. Outside of that it looks like maybe they stopped producing straights in the 80’s. But they are still in existence under the 3rd generation Dorten and possibly making straights under the Wacker umbrella.
Wow, reading that... I am like no help. :scared011:

That Dorko is nice @Keithmax - a 7/8 with a Bismarck profile? Oh yeah, I’d be all over that!

This morning’s shaving adventure is the maiden voyage of the ‘Filly 16’, near 8/8 razor that arrived yesterday and that I honed up last night. It has vanishingly tiny bevels, even grind, and with the fresh edge, baby dolphins envy me. It’s a singer for sure. Soap was MdC original in brain bowl, brush was a huge Simpsons 59 and a splash of Myrsol Agua Balsamica finished up.

    Cheers, Steve

Tonight's shave was with a fine German razor. I had a fantastic 2 pass shave, that left me BBS. Zero issues, just a solid performing razor.

    Razor- F.W.Engels "Leader". Germany
Brush- RazoRock 400, WD High Mountain Badger
    Soap- TOBS Sandalwood
Aftershave- Avon Spicy. Triple Crown Decanter

Actually I am a bigger fan of the “old” in this case, but both deliver. :)

5th day using the Geneva Pyramid 7

I think I will end the experiment for how long I can use this razor w/o going back to the stone. While the shave was good today, it was slightly noticeably less effective.

Try around 10 strokes, on a pasted strop, first. Then do 40 linen, 40 leather. That should bring it back.

I’ve actually done this and posted about it here, I got around 65 shaves out of a Cape Swedish Steel, maintaining only with canvas and leather, no abrasives. I did it twice with about the same results, 60+ was pushing it a bit but 45 shaves were something more realistic from a quality shave standpoint.

This morning’s shave was an edge test off a Shapton Glass High Carbon (HC) 8k hone, details are in the honing thread. This hone is designed for high carbon steel as the name implies, and it’s slower than the HR, polishes more and has a good rep as a finisher. The results? Certainly as good as the Naniwa 10k or 12k, IOW, smooth and comfortable, no tugging or pulling and shaved as closely as anything. Thumbs up! If you’re in the market for an 8k stone, this should be one to consider.

Soap was MdC fougere lathered with a Simpsons 57, and Myrsol Agua Balsamica made me a happy shaver.

Well, I know this is boring, but I used the Geneva Pyramid again, but in the spirit of full disclosure, with 50 x strokes on the Thuringian because the strop only edge was beginning to wane.
