You would think I would, But I wont, considering my experience with one particular spike point I've honed. I still have a small scar. I am either stubborn that way, or have way too much blood. :D

Without a doubt, NOS blades, are the easiest to hone, but I feel you don't increase your honing skills, until you've tackled some old blades that people gave up on, 80-150 years ago.

Another down. This was a NOS J.A.Henckels, that I debated on just leaving it alone. I couldn't resist. It was super easy to put bevel on, as to get it to an ultra sharp edge. The factory bevel was angled more like a butcher knife.

    J.A.Henckels 451 Friodur, 5/8th inch.

    Lovely!
Friodurs take a lovely-keen edge— and it lasts!
T'was one of my favorites for a while— but alas, this one has gone to a new home…. :sad023:

This is the last hone of the day. Its a Wade & Butcher, Camel Bone scales. It came, supposedly shave ready, and being that this was the first straight razor I have bought in 30 years. It was supposed to be "Shave Ready" and the seller had been recommended by others here. It wasn't shave ready, and it took about 600 strokes on the strop to get it sharp enough to shave. I have had this in the rotation for about 4 months, and the edge fast declined. I decided that today was the day to put a new bevel on it, as I could see the old one was uneven. The heel wasn't very sharp either.
Soooo, of to the hones I went. One strip of tape, and my usual progression, with emphasis on the heel. King 1k, unknown 3k/8k, Welsh Slate Stones 8k 12k 15k, Chromium oxide linen strop, Illinois 827 Russian leather strop 75 strokes, and Illinois 206 smooth leather 30 strokes.
End result, excellent. The Wade & Butchers sure can take a very sharp edge, without much effort. I will be shaving with it sometime this week.

Very pretty. You come across a lot of nice looking blades. Puts mine to shame.

I was determined, and did it in stages. I finally had enough. When a Wade & Butcher isn't delivering a good shave, it's time to start over. The hardest part is seeing the wife eye all the stones and towels, on her table, then her giving me "The Look". The "He's taking over my table all day" look. :angelic007:

Two razors honed today, for other members.

J.R.Torrey Razor Co. A sweet little razor to hone, everything straight on it, it just needed a little coaxing on the toe end, because of its profile. A strip of tape was used on the bevel.

Japanese Scheonburg Frameback. It felt like Swedish steel, which required a little extra time, but not too much. The spine was well worn, but not the blade. Two strips of tape were needed. This razor had been highly polished and required a rebevel, but that went well, because it was straight as an arrow. It took a scary sharp edge, that I tried out on my face, dry, and it still cut through all whiskers like butter.

I honed this George Wostenholm & Son Celebrated IXL is Razor Washington Works Sheffield. I had a suspicion that this puppy knew how to sing...and I was right. Great auditory feedback. Great little shaver. Honed easily on Naniwa 1k, 3/8k, 12k stones. I have put this SR in my regular rotation.

That is a monster tang on that thing. :shocked003: ...and yes, the blade is wide enough to land an aircraft on.

20161221_003832_resized.jpg Finally got my hands on a nice looking hand forged c-mon. Couldn't believe I got one near nos. Soon as I started looking at it I noticed show side was sharp on heal end but not so good near toe yet seamed only honed maybe 2 or 3 times at most. Someone worked the spine at toe a bit much too. Hmm, ran it across the leather and sure enough she was scratching on the return. Slight warp at toe, this thing bit someone more than once and they gave up on it. Glad they finally gave it up. Cleaned, polished and honed to a killer edge! Hopefully not literally. Shaves awesome but that one side really wants to bite so I'm going to be forced to blunt the tip which I hate doing but it leaves me no choice. Like taking a pet to get fixed.:(

That's a beautiful razor @Kizurra . I have a couple of spike points that are candidates for having the tips muted. They look nice, but are quite dangerous if your shaving game is the least bit off. I have a scar to prove it.

I love my square points, they are fantastic for getting right under the nose. Unfortunately with the warp in this one it just wants to take off the nose.

This is up for my next hone job. Super clean Clauss. It does not appear to have been honed yet.

Yes I am very happy with it. It should be a snap honing it up. I will do it tomorrow. I will post results then.

    Tommy Boy

Funny thing most people call me Tommy. I think that is a good thing. Only my mon calls me Tomas. I know I am in deep stuff if I am called that.
