I honed up my Russian Boctok-2 tonight. I decided to try out my new Arkansas Translucent. My progression was 1,3,8 Naniwa then finished with 200 strokes on the Arky. 100 laps on my strop.

The finish was not a mirror polish. It did however pop my fine arm hairs with ease.

The shave proved to be a really mellow feeling shave. No tugging just a nice smooth shave. 3 pass DFS and no Aluminum feedback.

Very happy with first try on this stone. I spent an hour or so getting the stone totally flat and sanded down to 8 micron wet dry.

I just honed this Wade & Butcher Wedge. I think its a full wedge, not a partial. I had to tape the spine, and It still left a larger than usual bevel. Not too big though. It took a fast bevel on the 1k King. I then used an unknown 3k/8k stone. Then the Welsh Slate Stones, 8k 12k 15k. The blade took a very sharp edge and was even better after the Chromium oxide stop, Linen strop and about 100x on the Illinois 827 leather strop. Hair popping all the way down the edge.

using a black ark on my russian blade, with very good result.seems like arks is a good choice for thees razors.using the black ark on US razors also. they are among my favorites.

Just 3 drops of mineral oil. 2 drops will work fine. Then i cleaned it off with some simple green when finished.

It's been a day of Honing, in-between errands.

Bengall Razor. T.R.Cadman & Sons. This was a pleasure to hone. No blade issues, it just took to each stone without any problems. After the usual progression, it came up really sharp, with hair popping all the way down the edge. This blade has some awesome steel, you can just feel it when honing.
Oh, that's just a shadow on the blade.

    Hone three for the day.
It was a two Taped spine, due to wear. It honed up easy and very sharp. Very good steel. After I was finished it was a hair topper popper all the was.

    Hone Four for the day.
Another easy one to hone. This took two pieces of tape on the spine. It honed up easily with only a light amount of pressure needed on the toe end, bevel setting, to catch up with the rest of the blade. Hair popping the entire blade when finished. P.S. I'm liking these Welsh Slate Stones more and more, with every razor I hone.

Just Honed this Old Fredrick Reynolds Sheffield Wedge for a Forum Member..It Took a Very Keen & Comfortable Edge..The Bevel was in an Absolute Mess with a Dud Home Job..I Used Three Layers of Tape..If I am Going to Continue to Hone these Old Wedges that Need Major Work I Need a 600 K Stone as it Sure Doesn't Pay Time Wise on the 1 K Stone..:happy097:

    But, it sure looks nice.
Billy, wouldn't a 600k(600,000) stone take even longer?? That would make a heck of a finisher.:shocked003:
As far as "It doesn't pay time wise"; All I need to say is "Russian Razor".

:happy097:...A 600 Stone Would be Far Quicker to Remove a Lot of Metal..The Naniwa Stones are Smooth Cutters & the 1 K Would take the Scratches Out in Jig Time..:)

It looks like a big heavy cast blade. Did you have any problems honing yours?

I Received this Absolute NOS Mint Russian Dvuhzakovnaya 5/8th (Double forged ) 1962 Birth Year SR Today..The Pics Don't Do this SR Any Justice..My Friend @Karl G Kindly Sent Me it as a Birthday Present..He Highlighted the Razor a Few Weeks Ago & Egged Me to Buy it..Well..What a Wonderful Surprize I Had Today when I Opened the Parcel from Our Friend @NCoxSTL in the Ukraine..I Will Hone Her Up Tonight I Reckon..;)

The Factory Edge is Set a Lot Closer than the Later One I Received from the 1970s..In Other Words their Doesn't Appear to be a Lot of Metal to Remove & the Steel Feels & Looks a Bit Softer..I Reckon this will Hone Up in Jig Time..:D

    Thank You Karl..I Am Delighted..:happy036:

    Oh Man..This is Sharp..:happy102:
