Did you try either of them with a blade?
I can't decide which I like more, the 47' SuperSpeed or the 47' Aristocrat. ;-) I shouldn't do that, should I? .. confusing the the story by entering in another choice..
If my memory is working, the '47 Aristocrat has the slightly collared neck and is one of the best shavers I've ever used, equal to the pretty much perfect '41 Ranger Tech. But the difference between those and that era's Super Speeds really is negligible. They're all fantastic shavers but the solid feel of that time (missing from some '50s and later razors) is also a plus.
I always get great shaves with any Gillette razors from the 40’s or 50’s. Yes....more care needs to be taken then with the 34c, but I like the Gillette shave experience more.

Super Speed...with a nice sharp Feather...for me.
Not a fan of zamac. How about a red tip? Bit nicer shave than a regular SS.
had a mint 40s ss but sold it off, prefer the rockets more.my 34c was my second razor i purchased. since my interest in vintage gillettes happened the 34c sits quietly in its box...
If we're going "off range" then I say look for a 1941 Ranger Tech.
Yes, off range or free range I'm familiar with both. I've not delved into the 30's and early 40's bunch as of yet. If I did, it'd be an open comb. For now, I'm quite content with late 40's SuperSpeeds & Aristocrats, both are suffice. ;-) .. for now
Ah yes, the ROCKETS.. I forget which two I have, ones a HD 500 and the other is just your average everyday variety of a ROCKET. PLEASE, PLEASE, don't press me to chose which I like better. We'll save that for another thread.
Super Speed all day. Ive never been that impressed with Merkurs.
47 Super Speed Aristocrat. It is my birth year razor after all.
Both great razors but put me down for the 47
I do have the 47 super speed, too.
Beautiful guys .. They Only Come Out At Night.. ;-)
There is something about using a vintage razor that modern razors just don't have. It's the nostalgia, the retro charm.
I hadn’t used my SS in almost 2 years or my 34c in over a year, but broke out the SS a couple of weeks ago. It was better then I remembered, and enjoyable. So I guess I am favoring the SS out of the 2.
SuperSpeed for me. I had the Merkur, it was my first DE razor, I didn't really get good shaves from it.
Maybe not the Merkur but I feel the same way about some Edwin Jagger Black Chrome 3D Laser Diamond DE Razor other razors and with 'sharp' blades.
No-Brainer: '47 Super-Speed.
